Who is Louise Trotter? All about Bottega Veneta's new Creative Director replacing Matthieu Blazy

British designer, Louise Trotter is Bottega Veneta's newest Creative Director. The news was announced on December 12, 2024, right after Matthieu Blazy's exit. Louise Trotter is currently the designer of Carven, a French brand. Trotter will take the reins of Bottega Veneta in the coming year, towards the end of January.

Louise Trotter is setting the goal for female designers. She will be the only female creative director among a list of others working for Kering, the group that owns Bottega Veneta. Kering also owns brands like Alexander McQueen, Balenciaga, Gucci, and Saint Laurent.

Louise Trotter is no newbie to the fashion industry. She has been working with different brands and names in fashion for over 30 years.


Louise Trotter's journey in the fashion industry

Louise Trotter has an impressive history in the fashion world and three decades of experience. She was the creative director for British brands like Lacoste and Joseph.

Under her expertise, the brand Joseph rose to fame. She blended the classic silhouettes that Joseph was known for along with more recent styles in fashion. After working with Joseph for almost a decade, she joined Lacoste and made history as the first female creative director.

After her stints at Joseph and Lacoste, she moved to New York to become the vice president of womenswear design at Gap. After that, she just kept getting better and better, becoming head of womenswear at Calvin Klein, and then working with Tommy Hilfiger.

She started working with Carven in 2023 as the brand's creative director. According to Shawna Tao, the Carven’s chief executive officer of Carven, Trotter was described as,

"perfect candidate to revive the house." - Shawna Tao expressed.

Louise Trotter debuted her first-ever collection with Carven in September 2023 during Paris Fashion Week. If you wish to see Trotter's last Carven collection, her pre-fall 2025 collection will be exhibited in January 2025.


Kering and Bottega Veneta's thoughts on Louise Trotter as the new Creative Director.

The teams of both Bottega Veneta and Kering have expressed their confidence and excitement for the newest Creative Director.

According to the CEO of Bottega Veneta, Leo Rongone, he expresses,

On the other hand, Francesca Bellettini who is the Deputy CEO at Kering has some high praise for Trotter. She says,

"Louise brings a wealth of experience and a fresh perspective to Bottega Veneta's tradition of bold creativity and unparalleled excellence. She is the ideal creative talent to carry forward, alongside Leo Rongone and the Bottega Veneta team, the remarkable journey initiated with Matthieu Blazy, to whom I extend my heartfelt gratitude for his visionary creativity."

To all the new changes in Trotter's professional life, she responds by saying,

Louise Trotter's 2025 is starting on a very good note since she will be joining Bottega Veneta as their Creative Director. The position was previously held by Matthieu Blazy who will be joining Chanel. Bottega Veneta and Kering are excited to work with Trotter in the coming years.
