More details on 50 Cent’s speculated appearance in the Street Fighter adaptation movie
Street Fighter is an upcoming live adaptation of the popular game series of the same name, which debuted in 1987 and has since then sold over 49 million units worldwide, making it one of the highest-grossing video games of all time.
It was announced in 2023 that Legendary, a production house known for successful films like the Dune franchise, has acquired the film and television rights for the game series and will be jointly developed and produced with the Japanese game distributor Capcom.
The film will be distributed by Sony Pictures and directed by Japanese-American actor, writer, and producer Kitao Sakurai, who is known for directing Netflix’s 2021 film Bad Trip. Interestingly, he was not the first choice for this role. In April 2023, it was initially announced that popular YouTuber twins Danny and Michael Philippou, known for their channel RackaRacka, would direct the film.
The twins once shared a viral Street Fighter video titled “Real Life Street Fighter” on their channel. However, they stepped away from the project in June 2024, stating that they wanted to focus on their next film, Bring Her Back. Following their exit, Kitao Sakurai was announced as the new director soon after.
The film was scheduled to be released in March 2026, but has been shifted indefinitely and has been removed from the Sony 2026 calendar. While the plot of the film hasn't been shared yet, it was announced that Andrew Koji will play the role of Ryu and Noah Centineo will play Ken Masters. Alan Ritchson will star as Guile, Jason Momoa as Blanka, Roman Reigns as Akuma, and Callina Liang as Chun-Li.
50 Cent is reportedly going to play the role of Balrog, a feisty former boxer and the bodyguard of the movie’s villain. According to The Hollywood Reporter, 50 Cent has been training for the role as he is allegedly going to perform his stunts on his own in the film.
50 Cent’s previous works in the Hollywood film industry include the popular “Power” series. His film house also produced ABC’s For Life and Starz’s Black Mafia Family.
