Ariana Grande mourned the death of her grandmother on June 17, 2025. The news of "Nonna's" passing was announced by Ariana's mother, Joan Grande, on her Instagram story. The post included an obituary of Nonna and a younger photo of Marjorie Grande.

In the post, Joan Grande wrote:

"We are devastated to share that the beloved matriarch of our family has passed away. Marjorie (Nonna) Grande passed peacefully in her home and was surrounded by her family and loved ones for every moment of her last few weeks. We thank you for your love, support and for respecting our privacy as we grieve and celebrate her beautiful, extraordinary life. Love, The Grandes."

The Wicked actress reposted the story on her Instagram account. She also uploaded a photo of Marjorie Grande, which was possibly taken on her wedding day, with the caption, "forever." Many celebrities, including co-stars Ariana has worked with in the past, came to express their condolences in the comment section. Some of the A-listers who expressed their support were Elizabeth Gillies, Jade Thirlwall, Daniella Monet, and more.

Ariana Grande's relationship with her grandmother, Nonna

Ariana Grande had a close relationship with her grandmother and even included her in one of her songs that the pop star released last year. Grande also told a reporter that her Nonna was the second person she called after her mother when she learned that she had gotten the role of Glinda in Wicked.

The song where Marjorie Grande featured is called Ordinary Things ft. Nonna. Her voice can be heard towards the end of the song, starting at 2:07 minutes. Nonna was probably talking about her husband during the first part. She said:

"And when he'd come home and I'd see him, when he first gets off that train It was like God almighty arrived It was like seein' daylight I mean, I could've packed up and left a million times You know? It's not that we never fought You can overcome that You know? It-it's very easy"

She continued by giving relationship advice. She said:

"And as I told her, never go to bed without kissin' goodnight That's the worst thing to do, don't ever, ever do that And if you can't, and if you don't feel comfortable doing it You're in the wrong place, get out"

Ariana Grande did not post much about her grandmother's passing on social media, aside from reposting her mother's Instagram story and a photo of a younger Nonna. Ariana Grande's connection with Nonna was felt through the singer's inclusion of her grandmother in her song, as well as the sweet moments she shared with her when she received exciting news.
