Pop icon Belinda Carlisle has released new music, but it comes with an intriguing caveat.

Belinda's new album “Once Upon a Time in California” is scheduled for release on August 29, 2025, marking a significant milestone in her musical journey. Rather than creating new original material, Carlisle has chosen to reimagine ten classic songs from her Southern California youth.

Belinda Carlisle has also released the single titled "One" from her upcoming album, which follows the release of another song from June, "The Air That I Breathe." Much like the latter was a reimagination of The Hollies’ rock anthem, the recently released "One" also offers Belinda's take on the song of the same name by Harry Nelson.

The songs from Belinda Carlisle's next album act as references to her musical background, and the announcement of the album has sparked excitement on social media. While reflecting on her experiences while recording the recently released track "One," the artist also urged her fans to prepare themselves to be met with a surprise. In the interview, she was quoted as saying:

"It was fun covering this song that I always loved. I listened to different versions and we decided to go for more of a jazzy approach which fit with the video concept which is a nod to Bob Fosse. I’ve never done anything like this before, so I think it might be a surprise for some of my fans.”

She then went on to elaborate on the inspiration behind the tracks:

"I was born and raised in California at a time when music was an important part of Californian culture. This collection of songs is the best representation of what I loved back then that I could think of — listening to it brings back so many memories of a time and a California that doesn’t really exist anymore. This collection of songs is the best representation of what I loved back then that I could think of – listening to it brings back so many memories of a time and a California that doesn’t really exist anymore. Here’s to the California of my dreams."

Once Upon A Time In California is set to feature 10 songs in total, 8 of which are still awaiting release. Other songs accounted in the official tracklist include Anyone Who Had A Heart, If You Could Read My Mind, Never My Love, Time In A Bottle, Superstar, Everybody Talkin, Get Together and Reflections Of My Life.
