Bill Murray and Warren Haynes join Big Head Todd and the Monsters for unforgettable Red Rocks show

Legendary actor and comedian Bill Murray took the stage with his band, the Blood Brothers, as the opening act for Big Head Todd and the Monsters at their June 8, 2025, show at the iconic Red Rocks Amphitheatre.

Murray is popular for his roles in classics such as Caddyshack, and he officially debuted his band at the Big Blues Bender in 2024. The Blood Brothers band includes Murray, Mike Zito, and Albert Castiglia.

The Monsters celebrated their fortieth anniversary at the Red Rocks amphitheater, and the event was marked with memorable performances from Bill Murray and The Blood Brothers and the Warren Haynes band.

Bill Murray, dressed in a vintage red and black shirt and a black hat, serenaded the crowd with covers of The Beatles’ Slow Down and Bob Dylan’s Like a Rolling Stone. Murray’s captivating performance ended with a bow for the crowd.

Warren Haynes, best known for his work with Gov’t Mule, the Dead, and the Allman Brothers, was dressed in a black overcoat and cowboy hat as he strummed his guitar to an extended jam session incorporating rock, blues, and soul. The band’s setlist included songs such as This Life As We Know It, Go Down Singing, Tear Me Down, and Banks of the Deep End.

Big Heat Todd and the Monsters was formed by three students of Columbine High School, Mohr, Brian Nevin, and Rob Squires, in 1986. The group, which gained popularity for their 1993 album Sister Sweetly.

They have never strayed far from their roots, frequently performing in Colorado and getting inducted into the Colorado Music Hall of Fame in 2023. Their anniversary events began on June 7 with opening performances from Cheap Trick and Cracker.

The June 8 leg featured Bill Murray, The Blood Brothers, and The Haynes Band. Mohr of Big Heat Todd recalled how he and Murray became friends:

"He had a book called [Cinderella Story: My Life in Golf], and at the beginning of it, he talks about how he goes on the green every morning and listens to my music,”

He added:

"So I knew that he was a fan, and then about seventeen years ago or so, he was at a show in Charleston, so I went up and introduced myself, and we've been friends since then. Or well, sort of — I mean, Bill's a wild card."
