The Game recently released his list of top 100 greatest LA rappers, with 2pac at the top and himself at the fifth spot. Other notable rappers on the list include Kendrick Lamar, Dr. Dre, Dom Kennedy, and YG, among others. The rapper released the list on his official Instagram page on June 1, 2025.
This list has since then garnered considerable interest online, with many on the internet reacting to it, like the reactions quoted below:
"Bro thought he could sneak himself in at 5."
Other netizens reacted in a varied manner, with some defending the list:
"It’s respectful for sure. I just don’t think anyone really believes that dot isn’t the best overall rapper out of LA. But for the respect and the peace I can live with this list," one netizen reacted.
"The Game 100% know 2pac , Snoop and Ice cube can’t rap better than him, he just paying his respect forward….. and he damn know fasho! Kdot can’t rap better than him , but LA is a place that always wants to highlight whoever is the driver of the vehicle in that moment," another netizen reacted.
Others, however, reacted negatively to the list, with some taking issue with the rankings of the list, and others taking issue with the inclusion of some of the musicians on the list:
"i would change the top 5: 1. Ice Cube, 2. Snoop Dog, 3. Kendrick Lamar, 4. 2 Pac, 5. Dr. Dre," a user commented.
"Except Tupac ain’t from LA," another netizen noted.
The Game made the list in response to Complex's Top 50 LA rappers list
The Game made his top 100 greatest LA rappers list in response to the publication Complex's Top 50 LA Rappers list, which was released on May 30, 2025 and had Kendrick Lamar at the top spot, and The Game at the 11th spot, after rappers such as Ice Cube, Snoop Dogg, Ice T and more.
The Game disagreed with the list, and hence he made his own list. He stated in his Instagram announcement post:
"A few days ago @complexmusic dropped a list of the Top 50 LA rappers & I don’t know who gave final approval but I get it… “playas f%?k up too” !!! I was born & raised in this city & I’ve never moved from it, left it for more then 2 months or abandoned it to call anywhere else home."
The singer continued:
"I’ve lost brothers, family, friends & damn near my own life to the lifestyle that so many people around the world try to imitate. I say that to say, I AM LA… I’ve mastered the art of surviving in this city that has claimed so many & believe when I say.. I’ve been in the trenches since my birth...."
He later added:
"Everybody on this list know what it is with me out here & those not on the list understand that the names above from top to bottom best represent this city & its culture. The few rappers on the list that weren’t specifically born here are on the list because of their dedication & choice to ride with the city once they got here. It’s non debatable !!!"
The Game is best known for his debut, The Documentary, which was released on January 18, 2005. The album went on to score several platinum sales certifications, including a multi-platinum one in the US. Since the release of his debut, the rapper has nine other studio albums, as well as well as several compilation albums.
Alongside his music career, the rapper is also known for founding the now-defunct music labels, The Black Wall Street Records, Blood Money Entertainment, and Prolific Records as well as the label 100 Entertainment.
