Master P, also known as Percy Robert Miller, has opened up about family life and parenting in an exclusive interview with People. The 55-year-old rapper is scheduled to perform at the Essence Festival of Culture in New Orleans on July 6, 2025.
The New Orleans-born rapper has seven children with his ex-wife Sonya C—Romeo, Vercy, Tytyana, who passed in 2022, Inty, Itali, Hercy, and Mercy. He shares daughter Cymphonique with another partner.
Miller spoke on the pain of losing his daughter Tytyana to a Fentanyl overdose in May 2022 and his public feud with his eldest son, Romeo. The latter had publicly accused his father of neglect.
While Master P didn’t expressly state that Tytyana’s death had reconciled him with his son, the Rock It hitmaker revealed that he was in a good place with Romeo and had learnt to improve on communicating his feelings.
"He got two beautiful girls. And to be honest, I learned a lot from my son, and we learned a lot from each other. We got to grow up. And parenthood is tough, but like I said, the main word is communication."
Speaking on his relationship with Romeo, Master P added:
"You also got to be able to admit when you're wrong — everybody sit down and get over their differences. I mean, ain't nothing like the love I have for my son and the rest of my kids."
You never get over that,” Master P speaks on losing his first daughter, Tytyana
Master P described the loss of his daughter as one he couldn’t overcome, adding that he had to find reasons to go on with his life notwithstanding the pain:
"You never get over that. Just never, but you've got to be able to go on. I think for me, my daughter's my parachute. I've been her parachute her whole life."
He spoke about launching the You Are Not Alone Foundation in her honor to help other families dealing with traumatic experiences, whilst adding that such efforts kept the family going. Tytyana’s young family is also being taken care of and the rapper revealed that he and the rest of the family had assumed responsibility of her kid.
As for Romeo and Tytyana’s other siblings, Master P talked about how he raised them to value hard work:
"I didn't give 'em nothing. I didn't give 'em a card until they got older, got to college and I taught 'em hard work. And I think that as parents, we got to teach our kids hard work."
