Sheryl Lee Ralph celebrated her 20th marriage anniversary with a vow renewal ceremony. The Abbott Elementary star and her husband, Vincent Hughes, celebrated the event in grand style at the Rocky steps at the Philadelphia Museum of Art, according to Vogue.

For the occasion, the 68-year-old actress opted for an 80-foot shawl, adding that she couldn’t walk the Rocky steps without leaving a trail behind. Sheryl Lee Ralph and her husband, Vincent, originally planned for their recommitment ceremony to be intimate, but their plans fell through.

Sheryl Lee Ralph, in an interview with Vogue published on August 4, 2025, revealed that she chose to have her vow on the famous Rocky steps instead of the museum’s interior because of Sylvester Stallone’s lines in the movie Rocky:

"It ain’t about how hard you hit, it’s about how hard you can get hit and keep moving forward.”

The actress related the quote to marriage, stating that although change in relationships is constant, how you and your partner rise above challenges matters. Sheryl’s 80-foot shawl was carried by twenty-two ballerinas from Philadanco.

"Fashion for me is an absolute theater,” Sheryl Lee Ralph says as she wears an 80-foot shawl for her vow renewal

With Diana Ross’s Ain’t No Mountain High Enough playing in the background, Sheryl walked half of the 72 steps before Vincent met her halfway and they made it to the top together.

In her Vogue interview, Sheryl described fashion as a theater:

"Fashion for me is absolute theater. I come from the stage, and I love the drama you bring on the stage.”

The actress and singer rocked a custom white dress from Monsoori Haute Couture and accessorized with a diamond Cartier watch. She complemented her outfit with Christian Dior Tribales pumps.

Sheryl Lee Ralph and Vincent Hughes met through a mutual friend in the early 2000s and married in 2005. When they met each other, they were both divorced with two children each. In an Essence interview in 2020, Hughes described the relationship they have:

"We believe in each other's mission and work, and we're both very focused on our children and our family."

The politician revealed that they began attending couples therapy early in their relationship:

"We hadn't even talked about marriage, but we knew we wanted to go to relationship counseling. If you're honest in your session, you leave everything wide open. It was a way to reveal ourselves to one another with guidance."
