On May 21, rapper Playboi Carti publicly accused Kanye West, also known as Ye, of sampling his song Crank without permission. The controversy began after Kanye announced the release of his new track, Alive, on social media and shared a clip. The song also features rapper NBA YoungBoy.
Within an hour of Kanye’s post, Carti responded on Instagram by uploading his own version of the song ALIVE featuring NBA YoungBoy. He captioned the post with,
"DIS MY SONG LIL BRA @ye"
The caption showed his frustration while accusing Ye of using his work without approval.
The incident has left fans confused about who owns the original song. Many have taken to social media to criticize Kanye West, alleging he stole Playboi Carti’s music.
So far, Kanye has not made any public statement addressing these allegations. Questions remain about whether Kanye had permission to use Playboi Carti’s original Crank track in his new song Alive, even though both songs feature NBA YoungBoy.
Sneako speaks on Playboi Carti's allegations of Ye using his song without permission
Along with announcing the release, Kanye West also reposted social media star Sneako’s tweet, where Sneako informed fans about the newly-released song Alive by Ye and NBA YoungBoy. The two have been spending time together recently, with Ye frequently appearing on Sneako’s livestreams.
After Playboi Carti made the allegations against Ye of using his song without permission, Sneako also came forward to clear the allegations by saying,
"There's stuff I gotta talk about. So Ye made the beat clearly. Ye made the beat, and if you listen to it, Carti's version is not good. It's not good. People are saying, Oh, look, he called him lil bro. I mean, his song is not good."
He added,
"What is the first lyric of ALIVE? Season 10, easy season 10. What season would Carti be talking about? Like, this is very clearly a Ye song."
In the end, he said,
"Ye made the beat and YoungBoy's clearly writing lyrics that insinuate that this is Ye's song about Season 10."
The comment saw a mixed reaction. While many fans agreed with Sneako and backed his claims that Alive clearly belongs to Kanye West, others criticized him for speaking on something they felt he had no authority. Some sided with Playboi Carti, arguing that Sneako downplayed the seriousness of the allegation.
Kanye West had earlier made negative comments about Carti’s MUSIC album, which came out in March. He criticized the project, which didn’t sit well with Carti.
