Metallica has officially revealed the next leg of their ongoing 'M72' tour. The band has announced a string of new dates across Europe for Spring and Summer 2026.
The 2026 European run is set to kick off in Athens, Greece, on May 9, 2026, and wrap up with a two-night stint in London, UK, on July 3 and 5, 2026. The shows will once again feature Metallica's signature in-the-round stadium production with the central "Snake Pit".
Fans of the beloved heavy metal act had mixed reactions to the new leg announcement.
Metallica took to their official X (formerly Twitter) to share the European tour announcement. The post read:
"M72 RETURNS TO EUROPE IN 2026. 6 Shows. 9 Countries. 4 No Repeat Weekends. 1 Unforgettable Tour. Tickets go on sale Friday, 30th May. Fan Club Presales begin Tuesday, 27th May.
Fans were notably quick to weigh in on the comment section of the post as they penned their thoughts over the 'M72' 2026 Europe tour announcement. Below are what some of them had to say:
"Very disappointed with the price of tickets", expressed an X user (via X).
"Interesting that you know the ticket prices even though they are not yet on sale.", replied another (via X).
"I took a 7,000-mile round-trip to Detroit in '23... And a 9,000-mile round-trip to Seattle in '24... And in 2026, M72 will be just 7 miles down the road in Cardiff. That's awesome! Can't wait to see ticket prices, because Ticketmaster + Principality will rinse the fans...", shared a third (via X).
Others also chimed in:
"If you've never been to a gig out in the US, I can highly recommend it. It's a whole other experience. The Detroit and Seattle concerts are probably the best I've ever been to. Every single thing from the second you arrive at the venue to when you get back to your hotel/apartment... Just a much better time than any concert I've been to here. And I've had some great times at concerts here... But nothing beats a concert in the US, especially for a big band like Metallica.", penned a fan (via X).
"4 years of the M72 tour? A bit much, I think… how ‘bout new music/album, keep the same style tour going forward…", stated another (via X).
"Man, saw you guys twice in Istanbul, 2010 & 2014. hell, it's been 11 years. No shows during the WorldWired tour and no shows during the m72 tour so far. We've been waiting for you for 11 years now. We're loud and clear, diehard fans awaiting you guys in Turkey!", commented a third (via X).
"Hoping you will add some dates in Spain or Portugal.", wished a fourth (via X).
More on Metallica's 2026 'M72' 2026 European tour
In an official press release, Metallica mentioned the plans for the European tour. The aim is to use the same unique stadium production to have a complete 360° view of the show at mid-field in-the-round, with the Snake Pit in the center of the stage. The act also plans to carry on the now-traditions of No Repeat Weekends with a combination of some One Night Only shows.
"Greetings from the road as the M72 World Tour currently rolls through North America… we're not ready to stop yet! An incredible year four of M72 in 2026 will take us back to Europe next spring and summer to visit some cities we have not been to yet."
They also added:
"Frankfurt, Budapest, Dublin, and London will all feature No Repeat Weekend shows that will continue to offer a completely unique experience each night: two totally different set lists spanning our 40+ years with two different sets of support acts! Purchase a 2-Day ticket, and you won't hear the same song twice. As you’ve come to expect, we’ll be sure to have lots of extracurricular events planned for you to hang with fellow Metallica fans on the day between shows."
They concluded, stating that a portion of the earnings from each ticket purchased will be donated to local charities, through the 'All Within My Hands' foundation established in 2017 by the band.
"Established in 2017 as a way to give back to communities that have supported Metallica over the years, All Within My Hands has raised over $20 million, providing $11.4 million in grants to career and technical education programs, including the ground-breaking Metallica Scholars Initiative, now in its seventh year, over $7.4 million to combat food insecurity, and more than $4.7 million to disaster relief efforts."
