Gunna was involved in the YSL label RICO trial in Georgia that started all the way back in 2022. The rapper at first pleaded he was innocent, before moving on to successfully file what is called a Alford plea - a form of plea where one can make a formal admission of guilt while maintaining their innocence - in December 2022, with the rapper admitting to one charge under the trial and released for time served.

While this ended his involvement with the trial, the rapper has now apparently covered up his YSL tattoo with flames, leading to reactions on the internet, such as the ones below:

"End of an era."

Other netizens were supportive of Gunna's apparent decision to cover up the YSL Tattoo:

"He kept the lights on in YSL since 2022 yet thug keeps dissing him at every given opportunity, so happy to see him moving on from all that BS," one netizen reacted.
"He’s a grown man now. Music is shifting away from Atlanta and he knows better than people do. Check his collaborations with Afro-Beat Artists his a genius. YSL needs him, he don’t need nobody but his voice and good health so yeah. He’s grown," another netizen stated.
"Glad he’s moving bigger and better things," one commenter reacted.
"Smart. I just wish all these talented artists with money would spend it on good tattooers. Not mediocre or sh**y, who charge them a lot. But good tattoos. Fair prices. I lived and worked in Atlanta and tattooed there. We tattooed rappers," one netizen took the opportunity to lambast the quality of tattoos worn by rappers.

A brief overview of Gunna's YSL RICO trial and its events

Gunna's part of the YSL RICO trial started after he turned himself over on May 11, 2022. This was followed by a statement on his birthday on June 14, 2022, stating that he was innocent:

"For now, I don’t have my freedom. But I am innocent. I am being falsely accused and will never stop fighting to clear my name! The picture that is being painted of me is ugly and untrue."

The singer continued:

"My fans know I love to celebrate life, I love my family, I love my music, I love to music. I have all faith that God will grant me justice for the purity in my heart and innocence of my actions."

After his statement, the case continued for several months before Gunna filed the aforementioned Alford Plea on December 14, 2022. The plea resulted in him getting five years, converted to one year time served and four years suspended, leaving him free and clear. The rapper stressed that despite the plea, he had not agreed to work with the prosecutors, stating:

"While I have agreed to always be truthful, I want to make it perfectly clear that I have NOT made any statements, have NOT been interviewed, have NOT cooperated, have NOT agreed to testify or be a witness for or against any party in the case and have absolutely NO intention of being involved in the trial process in any way."

Gunna released his fourth studio album, a Gift & a Curse, soon after being released from prison in 2023. This was followed by his fifth studio album, One of Wun, on May 10, 2024.
