Kai recently completed his mandatory military service in the South Korean military and was discharged on February 10, 2025. The singer then performed a couple of shows in Seoul, South Korea. The singer also released his newest mini-album, Wait on Me, on April 21, 2025. The mini album is his fourth mini album.
The singer talked about his absence from his music career and the new mini album in an exclusive interview with NME on May 13, 2025, stating:
"I feel [somewhat] incomplete about ‘Rover’. Since there’s been a gap of two years, I was left with this lingering feeling, since I wasn’t able to perform on diverse stages to fans all over. It feels like I wasn’t really there fully for ‘Rover’. This feeling [of incompleteness] just naturally led into the making of this next album."
The singer continued:
"I thought a lot about how to express it into this album in a different way, and I think these things also made me feel pressure. ‘Should it be a new version [of me], or should it be the version that I liked?’ These thoughts remained in my mind throughout. As I peeled off the layers of this album one by one, I realised that the best way was to just go with the flow."
Kai started his career with EXO in 2012. The group went on to release seven albums, starting with XOXO in 2013, and going on till their latest, Exist, in 2023. Exo has also released four live albums and several mini-albums throughout their career.
Kai started his solo career in 2020 with his debut self-titled mini album. This was followed by his second mini album, Peaches, in 2021. In 2023, he released Rover, his third mini album.
