On Tuesday, May 20, 2025, Joe Jonas took to his TikTok account to share a hilarious video of himself and Aly & Aj lip syncing to the latter's 2007 break-up anthem Potential Breakup Song.
In the video, Joe Jonas fakes a phone call while he belts out a part of the first verse that reads:
“It took too long, it took too long, it took too long for you to call back."
The video then shows Pop-Rock duo Aly & AJ singing along to the next lines from the first verse.
"And normally I would just forget that/ Except for the fact it was my birthday.”
Reacting to the Camp Rock actor's TikTok post, which was captioned: "Ok but I’d never do that on your birthday," the Hothouse crooners commented: "And yet they STILL think it’s about you," debunking a long-time speculation that Aj's previous relationship with Joe inspired the song's lyrics.
Fans react to Joe Jonas and Aly & AJ singing Potential Breakup Song

While most fans talked about the nostalgic experience this clip created, other X users conveyed the notion that the Potential Breakup Song wasn't about Joe's past romance with Aj:
"They (Aly & Aj) have said multiple times the song’s not about him, and Joe with his caption is confirming that the song is not about him," @jbroscode explained.
"Ok, PopCrave couldn't do a little research. Lol, they're making the point that this song isn't about him. Joe says that in the post. Plus, Aly and AJ already said several times it's not about him," @JinJackJoeDNCE expressed.
"They confirmed years ago it's not about Joe," @JackieWarner 13 reacted.
Potential Breakup Song was released on June 26, 2007, from Aly & Aj's third studio album, Insomniac. It peaked at number 17 on the Billboard Hot 100, and Time Magazine ranked the multi-genre track as one of the best songs of 2007.
