Ozzy Osbourne's career: A brief history

Ozzy Osbourne's career began in 1968 as the founding member of Black Sabbath, alongside Geezer Butler, Tony Iommi, and Bill Ward. The singer remained with the band till 1979, leading the band through their early successes. These successes would include seminal metal albums such as Black Sabbath (considered to be the first metal album ever), Paranoid, Master of Reality, Vol. 4, and more.

After his departure in 1979 due to contentions with other members, the now late singer embarked on a solo career, releasing albums such as Blizzard of Ozz and No More Tears throughout the next decade.

Ozzy Osbourne reunited with Black Sabbath in 1997 for the album Reunion. This led to more reunions down the line, including one that lasted from 2011 to 2013, and again in 2016 for a farewell tour for the band. The last Black Sabbath show played by Ozzy Osbourne was just a couple of weeks before his death, at Villa Park in Birmingham, UK, on July 5, 2025.
