The suicidal note quoted above is not the first instance of Kodak Black struggling with his mental health. The rapper has been in a long struggle with mental health and addiction, starting while he was serving his more than three-year sentence in federal prison at the Broward County Jail for weapons-related crime.
As per a report from back then by Revolt on October 8, 2021, the rapper talked about his mental health struggle in a series of tweets from within prison, including how he was feeling suicidal.
The struggle continued even after he was released from prison, with his appearance on Kai Cenat's livestream Mafiathon 2, sparking further concerns, as the rapper was incoherent and exhibited signs of distress, as per a report by Rolling Out on November 5, 2024.
In a similar incident in 2025 on May 7, 2025, the singer stated that he had never experienced love and was visibly distressed and emotionally distraught, climbing into his bed after being asked about his relationship with Maranda Johnson.
