How did Russell Wilson pull off a ‘Wicked’-themed birthday surprise with Cynthia Erivo for his daughter?

Cynthia Erivo surprised Russell Wilson and Ciara’s daughter Sienna on her eighth birthday celebration in April 2025 and her father gave details about how it went down. The 36-year-old football player on an appearance on The Tonight Show on July 15, 2025, recounted how he had pulled off a Wicked-themed birthday surprise for his daughter.

Erivo had called in on Sienna’s birthday and surprised the kid with a song rendition. Russell described Erivo as awesome and added that the Wicked Star and his daughter had it off and became good friends:

“She’s awesome because she had no problem hopping on FaceTime,” Wilson continued. “Ciara and her are really, really close. It was cool, ’cause Sienna was like, ‘Um, can you sing to me now?’ And she just hopped right into song. It was a good birthday, for sure.”

While discussing how he successfully pulled off a Wicked-themed surprise for his daughter, Sienna, Wilson shared photos of himself dressed as Fiyero from Wicked and Sienna in Elphaba’s signature green.

The 10-time Pro Bowler praised his daughter and predicted that she would assume a leadership position in the future:

"I’m telling you guys, she’s probably going to run for president one day,” the proud dad told Fallon’s audience. “She is a boss lady. She runs the show — Ciara runs the show, and [Sienna] gets it from her momma.”

Cynthia Erivo played the role of Elphaba in the blockbuster musical film Wicked. The project became the third highest-grossing film of 2024 in the US and sixth worldwide.

On November 26, 2024, Cynthia Erivo was interviewed by Variety and the multihyphenate artist stated that she wanted her character to be similar to herself. Erivo, 38, was asked by the Magazine what it meant to her to be one of the most-viewed interpretations of Elphaba.

Cynthia Erivo replied that she felt awesome, adding:

"Her raison d’être is to show that all of your differences make you special,” she said. “You can soar above anyone’s expectations, that you can be everything you’re meant to be, and that the search to finding that can be hard, but when it happens, it can be really freeing.”
