The emotional moment when late One Direction singer Liam Payne gave a pep talk to contestants on the Netflix show Building the Band was shown on the show’s July 23, 2025, episode. Payne, who passed away in Buenos Aires after tragically falling to his death, is seen in the clip, talking to the group named Midnight ‘Til Morning before their semi-final performance.

Payne, who rose to superstardom during his time in One Direction advised the band members to give an optimal performance and improve their stage chemistry.

"You're all going to be on separate stages this week. But I need to feel that connection between you guys. And you need to make that stage your own."

Liam Payne, who had worked on the talent show months before his passing, revealed that the Midnight ‘Till Morning band was his favorite:

"This is your week to really sell it to the room. Do it together, look at each other, reference each other, but then also just be bigger. I've got a soft spot for you guys. Don't let me down."

The band took the stage and performed a cover of Circles by Post Malone.

"You remind me a lot of what we were,” Liam Payne says in recent clip from talent show

After Midnight Til Morning had performed their cover, Liam Payne met with them and emphasized his soft spot for them. He shared that the group reminded him of his early days as a One Direction member:

"You remind me a lot of what we were when we were on the show."

He praised the band’s energy on stage and encouraged them to keep on enjoying music and performing:

"It's been tough for you guys because there's a lot of strong singers on this show that have got a lot of tricks, a lot of trills, a lot going on and a lot of choreography, and it's hard. But the energy in here tonight is the happiest I've seen you guys."

Payne added:

"You look like you're loving what you're doing and the relationship between all of you was perfect. It was really nice to spend time with you guys earlier and you did everything perfect."

Midnight Til Morning didn’t make it to the finale as they ended up in the bottom two with Soulidified. The judges sent Midnight Til Morning home after choosing Soulidified to head to the finals. 3QUENCY has been crowned the winner of the inaugural season of Building the Band.
