More details on Rema’s new single, FUN
FUN was written by Rema and produced by long-time collaborators ThisizLondon and AoD. The afrotrap, afrobeat track features a melodic piano tune, track bursts, and layered rhythms. While the song might have a playful, catchy vibe, its lyrics delve into a profound reflection of freedom and hate. In the first verse, Rema discourages toxic competition and embraces big dreams and a stress-free life.
“I no get competition, my enemy na sapa (Say, na sapa)/ Na why I gara (Na why I gara)/ 'Cause I no fit loose guard (I no fit loose guard)/ Family matter, men still mount, Inshallah/ Stuck to the plan/ Keep my head up, even though say sometimes it seems very hard/ Omo mi, my dream big, my pocket filled with green salad/ M.I.A., email me, I can't give you my AT&T, man/ No time for beefing anybody, no be wetin bring me come here/ I no like stress.”
In the second verse, Rema tells us that at the end, we are alone and don't need validation from other people. Just do right by yourself.
“O.Y.O, O.Y.O (O.Y.O)/ The streets ain't got no love (No love)/ Hm-hm, no matter what you do/ People, dem must to talk/ Even if say you wan respond (Even if say you wan respond)/ They go say you're the one who's immature/ Like say na your fault (Fault)/ Omo mi, you gats serve before you turn boss/ Omo mi, e go hard before e go soft/ Universe no like force/ Take your time, brother mi, no rush (No rush).”
In the chorus, Rema encourages people to let go of their worries and find FUN and joy in simple moments.
“Abeg, pass me my cup/ I just want to have fun/ I no wan worry too much/ I no wan worry too much/ I don dey gather my funds/ Me and my guys dey on soft/ If you dey hate, e no be my fault (Fault)/ Better wait for your turn/ Oya oh, I'm dripping (Oya oh, I'm dripping)/ Pelú water, fiji (Fiji)/ Balenciaga, Ricky (Oh, Ricky)/ Girls no wan leave me (Leave me)/ Share money for my guys like/ Cabin Biscuit, we litty (We litty), hm/ Pushing P's on lowkey/ Don't play with me, I do this.”
