Lorde’s highly anticipated fourth studio album, Virgin, dropped on June 27, 2025, and three days later, the New Zealand singer and songwriter is ready to talk about it. On Monday, June 30, 2025, the Royal’s hitmaker shared a post on her official Instagram account sharing “some L4 facts” about the album.
While fans were excited about Lorde sharing her opinions on the album, they were quick to note one important piece of news. In the shared post, Lorde revealed that one song was cut from Virgin at the last minute because she thought it “diluted the vision“ of the album.
“We cut a song last minute because I thought it diluted the vision!! One of my absolute favs that I wrote with Fabi. Couple really good B sides knocking around actually.”
This revelation has led fans to believe the song may be released someday, possibly as a bonus track on a deluxe version of the newly released album. @reali_tybb wrote in the comments section:
“ALL THOSE B SIDES???? LORDE DROP THE DELUXE.”
Although Lorde didn't specifically mention a deluxe version or the release of bonus tracks, her fans are hopeful that they will one day get to hear the “absolute fav” song that was cut from the album, the new album, as well as possibly some other bonus tracks.
Lorde’s opinion on Virgin
Virgin is the fourth studio album of Lorde. It was released on Friday, June 27, 2025. The album features eleven tracks, including three singles: What Was That, Man of the Year, and Hammer. Virgin was produced by Lorde alongside Jim-E Stack with contributions from Dan Nigro, Andrew Aged, Dev Hynes, Buddy Russ, and Fabiana Palladino.
In addition to resharing the album’s cover on Monday, the 28-year-old singer shared her opinions and some interesting revelations about Virgin. She began working on the song "David" first, but completed it second to last. She started “Clearblue” last but finished “Broken Glass” last. The singer mentioned “Favourite Daughter” as the hardest song on the album. In her words, the song “kicked my *ss.”
“Hardest song was FD, to write, to produce, to sing. Kicked my *ss.”
Lorde also revealed that she had constant insomnia while creating her new album. According to the Instagram post, she:
“wrote most of the FD lyrics, CA first verse, Clearblue, and David second verse right before dawn.”
She names the ripping tremolo + icy vocal adlib at the end of David and the start of Hammer as the favourite sounds on the album and adding that;
“People always thought the linked start and end of PH was intentional; it wasn't, but starting and ending Virgin at the fountain was.”
Lorde ends the lengthy post by sending appreciation to her fans.
“Love u, thank u so much for listening. Got a show to cook now.”
In support of her new album, Lorde will embark on the Ultrasound tour, which is scheduled to last from September to December 2025.
