Drake's Lawsuit against UMG stems from his feud with Kendrick Lamar

As mentioned above, Drake has been fighting a lawsuit against UMG, which stems from his 2024 feud with Kendrick Lamar. The rapper has accused UMG of artificially inflating the stream numbers for Kendrick Lamar's song Not Like Us.

The rapper expanded the initial lawsuit recently with another defamation lawsuit involving Lamar's performance of the song at the Super Bowl Halftime.

The initial lawsuit in question was preceded by a legal petition, a pre-action petition/discovery. As per the LAW.com website, essentially, a petition allows the petitioners to ask the court to order the defendants to preserve all related documents in preparation for an actual legal case.

The UMG lawsuit is the rapper's latest lawsuit. He has been involved in other lawsuits, including those filed against him by, like Ericka Lee, the Jimmy Smith estate, and more. He previously filed lawsuits against Ori Vechler and Vechler's company Gemma LTD.
