Jay-Z was embroiled in a paternity lawsuit with Rymir Satterthwaite, who recently dropped it.

After Satterthwaite's lawsuit was dropped, the singer filed a motion to have him cover his legal bills. This bill was denied by the judge in a recent hearing, as per an exclusive report by ALLHipHop.

According to the publication, the petition to have Satterthwaite cover the singer's legal fees was denied due to the failure of the singer and his legal team to provide a valid reason as to why the legal fees need to be covered by Satterthwaite. The singer can still file the same petition within 30 days with a better argument.

A brief overview of Jay-Z and Rymir Satterthwaite's legal battle

Jay-Z and Rymir Satterthwaite's legal battle began years ago, with his now late mother, Wanda Satterthwaite, claiming for years that she had a relationship with Jay Z in 1992 while she was 16 and he was 22, and that Rymir was her son with the singer.

In 2010, she asked Jay-Z and Robert Graves to take paternity tests. Graves took the test and was cleared. However, Jay Z refused to take the test, leading to multiple lawsuits against him by Wanda and Rymir, many of which were dismissed.

In May 2025, Rymir filed his newest lawsuit. This led to a fierce legal battle with Jay Z and his legal team, which ultimately resolved in part after Rymir withdrew his complaint. This would be the ninth time that a Satterthwaite lawsuit has failed against Jay-Z, with previous attempts dating back to 2010.

However, after withdrawing his lawsuit, Rymir took to Instagram to state that this was far from over, expanding upon how he and his family's lawsuit attempts against Jay-Z were just in search of the truth and that he was not doing this for the money. He said,

"Hey, what's going on everybody, its your boy Rymir. I just wanted to get on here and let everybody know the updates what's going on... I wanna let you all know I have not stopped my fight. I did withdraw my case. Its for a reason, y'all. Its not cause I'm stopping with it or not gonna refile it or anything like that."

Rymir continued:

"Its just a lot going on behind the closed doors that's only one case that we withdrew from right now but its a lot going on. You know how this industry works.. these judges, these lawyers, these um high celebribity people. They try use all different types of tactics and call them what you want, bully tactics."

He further said:

"Different types of stuff to you know, slow it down and just change the narrative. So its like, hey, we got to step back and play chess not checkers, so we sitting back and we absorbing everything right now. I just you all to keep the support. I have not got any DNA test, I have not got any settlement, anything like that."

Rymir added:

"I wouldn't just take it. I would let you all know. Honestly, even if it wasn't your business, you guys have been here for me all these years, supporting me, I wouldn't dare just run away with no money or nothing like that."

Rymir Satterthwaite ended the message with the note that he was fighting to change the future and that the fight was for something bigger than just him and his battle against the singer. Jay-Z has not responded to Rymir Satterthwaite's latest message or to the fact that he is considering continuing the legal battle against the singer.
