More details on Kim Seok Jin's Don't Say You Love Me
Jin’s Don't Say You Love Me is a soft retro romantic ballad that discusses the Running Wild singer’s dwindling relationship with his love interest. The song expresses his indecision to leave the relationship. The first verse reads:
“I really thought I made up my mind/ Hopped in the car and put it in drive/ I tried to leave like a hundred times/ But something's stopping me every time, oh-ho.”
The song's pre-chorus reveals Jin’s pretence to believe things are fine even though they're “breaking apart.” He explains that he never meant to take the relationship “this far” and that it was already too late to save himself.
The song's chorus talks about how his partner's affection makes it hard for him to move on from the relationship.
“Don't tell me that you're gonna miss me/ Just tell me that you wanna kill me/ Don't say that you love me 'cause it hurts the most/ You just gotta let me go.”
The second verse of the song describes Jin’s pain after letting go.
“I really thought this was for the best/ It never worked last time that I checked/ I got this pain stuck inside my chest/ And it gets worse the further I get, oh-ho.”
Don't Say You Love Me is available on all streaming platforms.
Jin describes the song as “a pop song with a simple arrangement and a contrasting blend of emotional, melancholic energy.”
“It tells the story of a painful love—two people who can’t let go, even after their relationship has ended.” And adds, "Anyone who’s experienced heartbreak will find something deeply relatable here.”
The official music video for the song was released nine days ago, the same day the single was released and has garnered over 12 million views on YouTube.
“It’s also the first time I took on a romantic role in a music video, so this song holds a special place in my heart and will stay with me for a long time,” Jin commented on the music video.
Recently, the Super Tuna hitmaker performed the song on the May 21 episode of The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, marking his first US promotional stop since the release of Echo.
