Kaytranada talked about the album in an exclusive interview with Rolling Stone on May 30, 2024, elaborating on how the track "Stepped On" came to be part of the tour:
“I don’t know what got into me, but I ended up doing six demos with my own vocals, me singing. I was really writing this song for the Weeknd, technically. But then it sounded nice to hear me singing on the song."
The DJ later talked about the inspiration for his music:
"A lot of hip-hop heads are discrediting it, but for me, it’s still an era where they would sample a lot of Studio 54-type disco songs, and then slow them down, and then just freak them a little bit. I have this song with my brother where it’s this disco sample. It reminds me of that era, like the ‘Mo Money Mo Problems’ music video, it kind of gives that vibe.”
Lou Phelps, brother of the DJ, also talked about the new album and working with his brother on it, stating:
"I can’t say he wasn’t confident, but he was so shy and so reserved that he would never allow himself to make decisions. He would always consider other people in his decisions. But now he’s just a boss. You can tell he knows who he is. He knows his power. He knows the importance that he has on the community, and on the people around him."
Kaytranada is the stage name of Louis Kevin Celestin. The DJ and producer started his career back in 2010 under the name Kaytradamus, before switching over to his current stage name in recent years.
The DJ released his debut album, 99.9%, in 2016. This was followed by his second album, Bubba, in 2019. In 2021, he released Kaytraminé. Bubba won the Best Dance/Electronic Album at the 2021 Grammy Awards.
