President Donald Trump’s immigration policies, especially those in relation to Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), have sparked public outrage across the globe. Trump stated that the policies aimed to restrict immigration and increase border security. The promises Trump made during his electoral campaign have led to several sections of the citizens of the United States, including celebrities, questioning Trump's administration.

Citizens of the United States took to the streets in large numbers to protest against Trump's immigration policies. Over five million people participated in the demonstration known as the No King Rally.

While President Trump deployed 2,000 National Guard troops to control the protests, which took place over the weekend, various celebrities, including Latin artists, took to their social media accounts to voice their opinions on the matter. Many immigrant celebrities, including those from immigrant families, have used their platforms to speak against the mass deportations and immigration raids occurring nationwide.

Several Latin artist, including Shakira, Bad Bunny, Becky G, Cucco, and Nezza, have voiced their dissent regarding the ICE policies.

In a recent BBC interview, Shakira described her experience as an immigrant living in the U.S. today. She characterized it as painful and fearful, and she calls for everyone to stand together and remain humane.

She told BBC as reported by Billboard:

“It means living in constant fear. And it’s painful to see. Now, more than ever, we have to remain united. Now, more than ever, we have to raise our voices and make it very clear that a country can change its immigration policies, but the treatment of all people must always be humane."

Bad Bunny is another Latin artist who has spoken out on the same issue. He shared a video on his official Instagram account on June 17, where he condemned the raids. The “I Like It” hitmaker expressed his frustration as he narrated what he claimed to be an ICE raid in his hometown.

“Those motherf*kers are in these cars, RAV4s. They came here… sons of b*ches, instead of letting the people alone and working.”

American singer and actress Becky G shared a Instagram post where she expressed her disappointment with the recent happenings in the country and emphasized that immigrants are also human beings and should be treated with respect, adding that every one has rights.

She begins the post by stating:

“The most American thing about me is that l am a proud grand-daughter of immigrants. My dreams are made of their sacrifices, tears, love & belief in the opportunity this country promised. They are the reason why I am here today. When you see me, you see them”

She added:

“The people being attacked today are not 'illegal aliens', they are human beings with RIGHTS. We must understand that an attack on them is an attack on OUR DEMOCRACY & an attack on what this country was made to stand for.”

She also stated that she would continue to fight and speak up against such policies:

“Our hearts are broken, but our spirit & will to fight back is not! We who have the privilege of being born here must continue to speak up!”

American singer-songwriter Cuco has also reshared numerous videos and images all in support of immigrants and standing in solidarity with them. Furthermore, he organized merch sales with hundred percent of the products going to Chirla.org, an organization promoting immigrant rights.

On Sunday, June 15, Neeza performed the Star Spangled Banner in Spanish at the Dodgers vs. Giants game at Dodger Stadium in L.A. She dedicated the performance to her people “para mi gente,” as she shared on Sunday.
