Maiya The Don recently reacted to Skepta's take on the UK vs US rap debate by tweeting on X. The debate regarding who's better at the rap game recently resurfaced online after MC and rapper Skepta wrote on X that he wanted to clash with an American rapper. Maiya The Don responded to this by writing on X:
"Skepta so fine i’m willing to ignore the fact that he’s delusional enough to believe any UK rapper is better than our best rappers In the US."
How did the UK vs US rap debate rekindle?
Skepta's challenge emerged on July 3, when he tweeted:
“I wanna clash an American rapper anyway, finally get this UK/US rap debate sorted.”
After his tweet went viral, people on the internet started commenting on it in great numbers. When one rap fan brought up the Lamar and Eminem beef in the thread, Skepta reminded the general public that:
“MGK left Eminem a chink in his armour. Why you talking like Slim Shady is untouchable?”
Later on, he wrote:
“You don’t need beef to have a clash. It’s sport. What I should have said earlier. This is the tweet. Good night.”
Emphasizing that it would be a cordial poetic interaction rather than a rivalry. He even tweeted:
“Clashing/battling as we know it today comes from dancehall culture, where people tell each other to suck their mother’s and nobody gets hurt.”
Skepta invited ASAP Rocky for the clash, but the rapper who collaborated with former on the 2018 hit song, "Praise the Lord (Da Shine)," has not replied yet. Explaining to the world why he wanted to clash with the rapper he once collaborated with, Skepta wrote on X:
“It’s not beef, Rocky is my family. Rap is a sport, same way we have dissing matches on the block we can do it on record.”
He went on to add:
“I think me vs Rocky would be a [fire] clash. No violence, just bars, punchlines and counteractions.”
According to Skepta, he had already planned it all out. The "Greaze Mode" hitmaker provided a dream lineup of elite MCs from both countries. As revealed, his fictitious card contained:
- Ghetts vs Eminem
- Chip vs Kendrick Lamar
- Dave vs Lil Wayne
- Central Cee vs Jack Harlow
- Queenie vs Megan Thee Stallion
- JME vs Tyler, the Creator
- Lancey Foux vs Travis Scott
- Youngs Teflon vs Meek Mill
- Blade Brown vs Pusha T
With no rapper coming up forward, Joyner Lucas replied to the debate. He joined in and was immediately shot down by the MC and rapper, who wrote:
“Hey Jonah, I wasn’t even gonna reply back but I’m a rapper’s rapper. I’m gonna respect the fact that you stood up and said something. The first man, you get me? But this is just another example of the ignorance. Jonah, if you was from the UK, fam? Quiet, bro, understand?”
Skepta went on to write that he acknowledged his presence in the rap:
“So, when I make my diss track for Rocky, I’m gonna give you two bars and then make one of the young Gs just rub you out… I didn’t do the work that I did for Jonah Lucas just to be saying my name anyhow."
He added:
"I got diss track on YouTube with 30 million views, no ad-libs. It’s levels, bro.”
Skepta says the UK can't lose

Skepta outlined the main points of his case in a now-famous tweet:
“The average American rapper don’t even listen to UK rappers, but we’ve listened to them (for years) and that is exactly why the UK can’t lose”.
After multiple fans responded to her tweets where she called the MC and rapper "fine," Maiya The Don tweeted:
“This U.K. vs. U.S. rap conversation is so f**king stupid.”
She even went on to use Central Cee as an example, claiming that he is “nicer than so many rappers in the U.S.”, as there were “so little traditional rappers left” stateside.
She added:
“By default, they’re not better at it. They are copying us, literally. And trends [and] sonics take a little while to travel, that’s why they’re 10 years behind. That’s why them n**gas rap like it’s 2009, ‘cause it literally is.”
It remains to be seen which side is better. Stay tuned to Soap Central to see if Skepta has what it takes. The rapper who performed at Glastonbury 2025 with only 4 hours' notice after Deftones had canceled due to an illness.
