Icelandic experimental pop group Múm is officially making a return in 2025. The band has announced a new album titled "History of Silence," which will be released on September 19, 2025, via Morr Music. Alongside this record, they are also scheduled for a North American tour, marking múm's first full-scale tour across the continent in years.
The newly announced trek will run from mid-September to early October 2025. This tour will feature múm performing in multiple cities across the U.S. and Canada.
The run will start in Philadelphia and end in Los Angeles. The band will stop in Brooklyn, Toronto, Chicago, Denver, Portland, Seattle, and more. The tour also includes a special album release show at Pioneer Works in Brooklyn on the day the record is officially set to drop.
Múm was formed in the late 1990s in Reykjavík. The founding members of the band are Gunnar Örn Tynes and Örvar Þóreyjarson Smárason. Some of their cherished albums include "Finally We Are No One" (2002) and "Go Go Smear the Poison Ivy" (2007).

Múm has shared the first single from their upcoming album. The track is titled "Mild at Heart." Announcing the track drop, the band made an official Instagram post, which read:
"It is our great pleasure today to share "Mild at heart", the first single of "History of Silence", the new album by the Icelandic collective múm. Out on LP, CD, cassette and digital Sept. 19th, 2025. It's the bands first full body of work since 2013's »Smilewound« and their seventh studio album to date—recorded, deconstructed, put back together again, refined and finished over the course of two years."
The post continued:
"Vibrantly oscillating around a carefully curated palette of electronic and analogue sounds, the eight new tracks reflect the group's continuous striving to explore sonic spaces in the realm of subtle yet gripping songwriting.
"Contrary to what the album title suggests, »History of Silence« is a collection of bold and colorful songs, no matter how muted they might sound at times. They tickle like a feather drifting through the wind, ending up in unexpected places, stimulating long-forgotten thoughts and feelings, intimate moments of introspection. The songs move through the echoes those moments leave behind: the emotional traces of things unsaid, the weight of stillness. Offering closeness by means of distance and much-needed support."
Múm concluded the post, stating:
"Listen to the album's lead single "Mild at heart" check out the beautiful video which was directed by Sigurlaug Gísladóttir and pre-order "History of Silence" on LP or CD today. Links are in the linktree in bio."
