"THUNDER IS SOTY": Netizens react as SEVENTEEN's 'HAPPY BURSTDAY' breaks records with 1.01M copies sold on first day, highest first-day sales in 2025

Korean pop group SEVENTEEN is celebrating its 10th anniversary with the release of its fifth album, Happy Burstday. The group had revealed they would be releasing their new album and much more to celebrate their anniversary. They performed at an offline event for their fans, "B-DAY Party," at the Submersible Bridge in May 2025.

Pop Core took to its X channel and noted that the new record's copies had already been purchased more than 1.01 million times and has reportedly set "a new high for the highest first-day sales of 2025!"

Fans took to the comment section to celebrate the achievement by the group and congratulated the group for completing 10 years in the K-pop industry. One user (@margeds) claimed that the title track of the album is song of the year and wrote,

"THUNDER IS SOTY"

Another user (@thatglitterhag) declared that the album is out and gave a shoutout to the group,

"YESSSSS MY BOYS!"

Another fan (@spicykimchimow) celebrated,

"lesss gow teaaaam! keep it coming!"

SEVENTEEN's new album Happy Burstday is reportedly the highest-selling record of the year yet! X accounts confirmed that the numbers are continually rising. According to more recent estimates by X user Korean Sales (@koreansales_twt), the sales had crossed 2.1 million copies sold on the first day!

Additionally, the group released the music video for Thunder, which has crossed 4 million views within 5 hours of its release. In an interview for Chosun Biz, the group revealed their thoughts about the new album and their anniversary. Joshua from SEVENTEEN noted,

"Since this album is being released on SEVENTEEN's birthday, it holds significant meaning. I hope CARATs (the fandom) will enjoy it joyfully."

Vernon added,

"It feels strange that we are already celebrating our 10th anniversary when it seems like just yesterday we debuted. I'm curious about everyone's reactions to an album that captures new aspects musically."

DK disclosed that for their anniversary celebration, they have, for the first time, included songs by each member. He added,

"We've included personal songs from all 13 members. You should be able to feel each member's unique color."
