The American Federation of Musicians has taken a united front to defend Taylor Swift and Bruce Springsteen following U.S. President Donald Trump's recent remarks. According to USA Today, Trump took to the social media platform, Truth Social, to make snarky remarks on the musicians.
The President has previously expressed his "hate" for Swift, and wrote in a new post on May 16 that,
"she’s no longer 'HOT'"
In another post, he defamed Springsteen and called him:
"dumb as a rock."
Following the remarks, President of the American Federation of Musicians, Tino Gagliardi, issued a response to Trump's alleged "attacks" on Swift and Springsteen. The notice reads that the federation will not remain "silent" after the musicians "were singled out" and "attacked". They revealed their "solidarity" and wrote,
"Bruce Springsteen and Taylor Swift are not just brilliant musicians; they are role models and inspirations to millions of people in the United States and across the world. Whether it's Born in the USA or the Eras Tour, their music is timeless, impactful, and has deep cultural meaning. "

The American Federation of Musicians released a notice on May 16 defending Taylor Swift and Bruce Springsteen following Donald Trump's remarks on Truth Social. The Federation emphasised that both Swift and Springsteen's "impact" has been undeniable, and as musicians they have the "right to freedom of expression."
Donald Trump's post comes after he publicly announced that he "hates" Taylor Swift after the latter endorsed support for Kamala Harris during the 2024 presidential election. Swift has previously expressed her disagreement with Trump's policies and also noted that she has done her "research" before making the choice.
Trump's comments on Springsteen reportedly come after the latter's show on May 14 in Manchester. According to USA Today, Springsteen expressed his discontent with the current administration and added that America is,
"currently in the hands of a corrupt, incompetent, and treasonous administration."
Springsteen encouraged his crowd to "raise voices" against "authoritarianism" and urged his fans to,
"let the freedom ring."
Donald Trump subsequently took to Truth Social to pass his remarks about musicians Taylor Swift and Bruce Springsteen. The duo have publicly expressed their candidacy and non-confirming views with Trump's administration. The American Federation of Musicians has vowed not to stay "silent" and will support its members. No official comments have been made by Swift or Springsteen.
