Streaming giant Spotify faces an outage as users in the United States and the United Kingdom report a spike on DownDetector. The streaming platform is yet to respond to the outage. A user on X commented about Spotify's outage. The user commented:
"And that’s why Apple Music will always be superior".
The widely used music streaming app experienced a setback on Tuesday morning when thousands of users said they couldn't open the app, stream music, or even log in.
Shortly after 8:00 a.m. EDT, outage reports started to spike and reached a peak of more than 18,000, according to DownDetector.com. This is the most recent in a series of disruptions that have occurred in recent weeks, including several in April. Spotify has not yet acknowledged the problem on its official channels, such as its X account, despite the public outrage.
As per DownDetector, there were around 14,000 reports of affected customers in the United States and an additional 4,000 in the United Kingdom. Just 3% of complaints were about the streaming platform's web version, whereas an astounding 97% of them were about problems with the app.
The internet reacts to Spotify's outage
The internet went ballistic when the streaming platform had an outage. Users quickly took advantage of the outage to hype up its main competitors. Fans of Apple Music, in particular, expressed their sense of vindication. A user added:
"Good thing i use Apple Music”
A third user stated:
"This is why YT music is better.”
Fans criticized Spotify’s timing, alleging sabotage and K-pop conspiracies, suggesting the company was either swamped or deliberately targeting specific fan bases. A user added:
"Spotify couldn't handle the traffic of Selena Gomez's next album with Benny.”
A second user joined in:
"They’re probably deleting Jimin’s and Jin’s streams again.”
For some, the outage wasn’t just a glitch — it genuinely disrupted their day. Driving in silence hit especially hard. The user commented:
"It was working for me 30 min ago…”
Another user added:
"It honestly ruined my whole weekend drove an hour in silence to work.”
As the app suffered an outage, a user poked fun by reminding all of us about life before digital music:
"Break out your radios!"
Many users are now reporting that the platform is back online, even though no official fix has been published. In a short time, the number of issues raised by users fell from over 18,000 to barely 3,000.
Despite the worldwide outage, the streaming platform has yet to respond.
