Katy Perry is seemingly pushing back at trolls' claims that she wouldn't be able to sell out her concert at Madison Square Garden.
The popstar recently performed for a full 19,500-seat stadium as part of The Lifetimes Tour in New York City on Monday, August 11. During her set, she pointed out that some people had taunted her with claims that she wouldn't be able to do that.
“They said, ‘No way! MSG, it couldn’t be done.’ And I was scared too,” she greeted the crowd, before jokingly remarking that she was scared to eat a “hot dog from the corner,” instead of performing at the full stadium. “New York you’re special and you know it,” Perry, 40, said. “But you know what, New York? You’re a beautiful hot mess.”

As reported by People, while on stage, Katy Perry also told her fans what she'd seen since she arrived in New York City.
“I rolled into New York, and it smelled like New York City," she explained. "And you know what I’m talking about. It was late at night. We got in from Philly, and there were drunk people vomiting on the same corner as people making out. That was New York City! And I loved it.”
She also remarked that “all of a sudden” she was able to “finally” understand the hype behind the city:
“You know why? Because New York City represents life - the highs, the lows, the in-betweens, everything that is messy, everything that is beautiful, and it sure as hell is not perfect ‘cause perfection is an illusion,” she said. “I understood it because I resonate with it so much, because one of my favorite words is authenticity, and you know what New York is? Authentic!”
As reported by USA Today, the concert turned a little more special when the songstress helped two of her fans get engaged. During her set, she brought out fans onstage with her to harmonize on The One That Got Away, but one fan named Jason Ve had something else in mind.
Upon getting up there, he asked Katy Perry if his boyfriend of over a decade could join him. They sang through some of her famous hits before Ve got down on one knee and asked his boyfriend, Arthur Woods the big question:
"Will you spend the rest of eternity with me?" he asked, before drawing up a ring. Woods agreed, and the stadium went berserk as they shared a smooch.
Katy Perry was visibly shocked as she pulled them in for a hug and took a photo with them. The songstress has been performing for her tour since May, which has seen pit stops in Philadelphia and Boston in recent days. She is next expected to perform in Newark, New Jersey, on August 14.
