Benny the Butcher and Freddie Gibbs’ feud explained as the former drops new diss track ‘Position of Power’

The rivalry between rappers Benny the Butcher and Freddie Gibbs seems to have taken a new turn. Benny recently released a diss track, "Position of Power."

According to HotNewHipHop, the new track comes in response to Gibbs’ last single, "The Big 2," in which he called Benny out. In the song, Benny raps:

“Rumors back home that we took some jewels/Some sh*t that don’t even cost a ‘B’ on my chain.”

He goes on:

“Benny the Butcher the reason these rappers can’t eat in this lane.”

Meanwhile, Freddie Gibbs, in his track, included a line where he compared the promotion of his work to Benny’s Def Jam debut, Everybody Can’t Go. He joked that even a photo of himself with no clothes got more attention than Benny’s album, suggesting it wasn’t a real competition. He also rapped:

“I seen my ex h* with the opps, I never get into drama/They both got crackhead mommas, they got some sh*t in common.”

The story about the two rappers’ beef goes back to 2021 when Freddie Gibbs joked about Benny getting shot in his leg. They also had problems in 2022, which began when Benny said their music work was over, and Freddie didn’t like that.

Later, Freddie was attacked at a restaurant in Buffalo while he was with his girlfriend. Rumors afloat that the people who hurt him were connected to Benny the Butcher. The latter told XXL in 2023:

“I’m so far removed from that bullsh*t in the streets I’m about to be an esteemed actor and a mogul. I couldn’t care less about any of that stupid shit. To me, those guys are like comedy. I make jokes of these guys like that. And that’s why guys like that want to fight because they a joke to me.”

What did Benny the Butcher say about Freddie Gibbs on a recent podcast?

In 2024, while speaking on The Breakfast Club podcast, Benny the Butcher reflected on the ongoing feud between him and Freddie Gibbs, saying:

“You don't do that sh*t to people you cool with, and that's just it. I really don't have no problem with him. He never done nothing to me in life. I have no problem with him. It's just that I would be goofy. And the people I make my music for would look at me goofy if I would stand next to him.”

He was also seen with Freddie Gibbs’ former partner, Destini Fox. Benny the Butcher told the podcast hosts that he returned the chain because the person involved was a friend and considered himself a "nice guy." Although he almost laughed at the situation, he gave it back and later saw her at his birthday party.

He said she got caught up in something that didn’t concern her and may have initially misunderstood him, but eventually saw that he was a good guy.

Benny the Butcher said he had moved on from the situation. He felt that fans were trying to create drama between him and the other person for entertainment, but he kept telling people there was no real issue. As far as he was concerned, it was over, and he believed the other person felt the same way.
