Not only is Sabrina Carpenter a music star, but she is also ingenious when it comes to her concepts and videos. And this is apparent in her recent video release for her song. The pop star released her much-awaited album, Man's Best Friend, recently, and ever since its release, the record has been on everybody's mind, but not just because of the catchy lyrics and danceable melodies.
The album, which featured 12 tracks, included a visually stunning, humorous, and flamboyant music video for the song Tears featuring Colman Domingo from The Four Seasons. The Espresso singer took it a step further and has now released 3 different endings to the song.
The music video follows the story of Sabrina Carpenter and her love interest, who has a car crash where only the singer seems to have survived. She gets up and starts wandering around when she stumbles upon a spooky-looking house and enters it. After entering, she realises that it is sort of a drag club and that's where she meets Domingo, who plays a drag queen. Sabrina Carpenter sings and dances with everyone before in the end being kicked out of the place.
Sabrina Carpenter's Tears' endings
The original ending that came out in the "Rocky Horror Show" inspired video featured her love interest being killed by her being impaled by her heel, while she makes a cheeky comment about how someone has to die every time in her music videos.
In the scene, he comes out of the woods looking quite alive when Sabrina goes,
“Wait, no, you died earlier, I thought? It’s a thing, someone has to die every video,” she says, followed by her throwing a stiletto into his chest.
“I’m sorry. We’ll always remember you, though.”
“He was a nice one, too. We have to give the people what they want,” she concluded.
However, adding to the horror aspect of it all, she changed the ending in the original video on YouTube with their new editable feature that allows creators to change snippets of an uploaded video. Here is a breakdown of the 3 alternative endings, in case you missed it.
Alternative Ending 1
The first alternative ending that Sabrina Carpenter released showcased a different way the love interest, dubbed "the guy who has to die" and played by actor Joe Apollonio, dies. In this sequence, he emerges from the woods limping and coughing as Ms. Brina looks disappointed to see him alive. He then says,
“Babe, I’m so glad you’re okay. I’ve been looking everywhere for you.”
This is followed by a lightning strike where she tells him to move over; however, a tree falls on him, instantly killing him. The clip ends with Carpenter standing and grabbing her hat, and saying,
“I told him to move over.”
Alternative Ending 2
Continuing with the theme, Joe also dies in this ending. The second ending in the "Sabrinaverse" was much simpler. The actor emerges from the forest just the same and says the same dialogue; however, before Sabrina Carpenter can even react, a piano falls on him.
Alternative Ending 3
Breaking from the pattern, "the guy who has to die" actually survives in this one with a hilarious twist. Just like all the previous endings, Sabrina Carpenter falls out of the house with the door being shut behind her, but instead of Apollonio emerging from the woods, there is silence.
She calls out for him, "Where did he go? Hello? Hello?"
But there is no response, so she gets up, grabs her hat, and says, "He left, typical." And then calling him "Stupid, Useless," a direct reference to her song Manchild from the same album.
After she leaves, the actor surprisingly also steps out of the house dressed in red lingerie and drag makeup, exactly like the performers inside the house. He calls out for her, and when he can't find her, he just steps back into the house, letting the door shut behind her.
At the time of writing, the video has gone back to the original "murder with stilettos" ending. While the internet is calling this a way for YouTube to promote itself and for Sabrina Carpenter to increase viewership and virality, the main question everyone has is, will there be another ending?
