On July 13, Bruno Mars made an unanticipated appearance at BLACKPINK’s Los Angeles concert, where he jammed to "APT" with Rose. A day later, he shared a video from the concert where he was seen running around the stage. The post was captioned:
“Almost out of debt BehhhhhBehhhhh!!! Preciate You ROSAAAAYYYYYY!!!!”
According to Just Jared, in 2024, rumors afloat that the singer was under tremendous debt from gambling. He allegedly owed $50 million to hospitality and entertainment company MGM Resorts International. Later, the company dismissed the rumors via a statement to People magazine:
“We’re proud of our relationship with Bruno Mars, one of the world’s most thrilling and dynamic performers. From his shows at Dolby Live at Park MGM to the new Pinky Ring lounge at Bellagio, Bruno’s brand of entertainment attracts visitors from around the globe.”
The statement continued:
“Any speculation otherwise is completely false; he has no debt with MGM. Together, we are excited to continue creating unforgettable experiences for our guests.”
In January 2025, the singer seemingly took a dig at the rumors through an Instagram story. The story came after he became the first singer to get 150 million listeners every month on Spotify. He wrote:
“KEEP STREAMING! I’ll be out of debt in no time.”
During an interview with John Katsilometes from the Las Vegas Review Journal in June 2024, when Bruno Mars was asked if he would like to comment on the gambling rumors, he said:
“Absolutely not! I love the lore that I am a Las Vegas lounge singer in debt to the mob. I can work with that.”
Bruno Mars reflects on why he doesn’t like the idea of recording performances on phones and cameras
In the interview, Bruno Mars shared that when he was a kid, he performed in his father’s show, and that’s what started his love for music. He remembered the special feeling of holding a microphone and making something magical that made people dance, smile, and enjoy together.
That energy was what made him fall in love with performing. He said:
“Without phones, without cameras, you have Option A and Option B. Option A, you have a good time. Option B, you don’t like it. That’s it, right? But the cameras bring in this new gray area, which I call Option C, which is you don’t know what to do.”
He went on:
“So, you just video, and you’re really not in it, you just want to show people online that you went to a concert.”
Bruno Mars explained that he didn’t think people recording concerts on their phones came from a bad place, but he wished the audience would enjoy the moment for themselves. He said they couldn’t feel the energy of the show if they were busy watching through a screen.
When discussing his work with singer and rapper Anderson .Paak, Mars looked back on the day and said it was an unforgettable time. They had just come out of the COVID pandemic and didn’t know what the future would look like. So, they decided to make their album and perform like it could be their last show ever.
