Busta Rhymes is getting his own star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame!
The renowned musician will be honored with what is to be the 2,818th star on the famed pathway on Friday, August 1, at 11:30 a.m. PT at 6201 Hollywood Boulevard. His star falls under the category of Recording, and Chris Rock, LL Cool J, and Chuck D are all expected to attend his big day as speakers.
Fans have since begun wondering about his net worth, which, according to Celebrity Net Worth, is $20 million. The rapper is a heavyweight in the hip-hop industry, with over 12 Grammy Award nominations and the BMI Icon Award to his name. He is also an established actor in his own right and boasts the Guinness World Record for the most words in a hit single, Break Ya Neck.
Some of his most famed works include his 1996 debut solo album, The Coming, and others like When Disaster Strikes… (1997) and E.L.E. (Extinction Level Event): The Final World Front (1998). He last dropped his album in 2020 after a 10-year hiatus from music, titled Extinction Level Event 2: The Wrath of God. It served as his tenth studio album and was a massive hit.
Busta Rhymes' career explored ahead of his Hollywood Walk of Fame ceremony
As reported by Walk of Fame's official page, Ana Martinez, Producer of the Hollywood Walk of Fame, said in a statement concerning Busta Rhymes' latest feat:
"The Hollywood Chamber of Commerce will be adding Busta Rhymes, one of Hip-Hop’s most enduring and electrifying voices, as a new member of Hollywood’s iconic sidewalk. His talent and influence are undeniable. His star on the Walk of Fame will stand as a testament to his lasting impact on hip-hop music and how important it is to the American culture.”
Speaking with Variety earlier this month of his forthcoming event, Busta Rhymes said:
"I’m not gonna lie, it was probably one of the most prestigious moments, one of the most emotional moments, one of the most dream come true moments. It’s really one of the things you never think you’ll ever get."
He continued,
"Some artists have never gotten the opportunity to have experienced seeing themselves receiving these accolades. There are incredible icons in this world that have never gotten a Grammy, they’ve never gotten an MTV Award. They’ve never gotten a Hollywood star. They’ve never been inducted in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. And they could’ve lived to be 90 years old and still never got it. They could have been professionally recording for 70 years and still never got it. It’s just such a profound moment for me, when I still am at a stage in my life where I am on an upswing of business, upswing of creativity, an upswing of happiness and upswing of joy. I’m probably in the best place in my life."
Over the course of his decades-long career, Busta Rhymes has sold over 20 million albums worldwide, the outlet has reported. He even has seven Top 10 debuts on the Billboard 200 chart to his name, as well as eight songs that peaked within the Top 40 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart.
Per Hot 97, these include hits like “Woo Hah!! Got You All In Check,” “Dangerous,” “Put Your Hands Where My Eyes Can See,” “What’s It Gonna Be?!,” “Pass the Courvoisier, Part II,” “I Know What You Want,” and “Touch It.”
More recently, Busta Rhymes collaborated with Ray-Ban for a brand new campaign, Variety reported. In a string of videos, he could be seen grooving to his “Put Your Hands” hit song with fellow artists Offset and Little Simz, all of whom were wearing their Meta glasses.
“For me, it’s a blessing and a gift and indescribable in words to explain how rewarding of a feeling it is to know these songs are actually being revamped by generations way after the song’s [release],” he told the outlet. “You don’t make the songs at the time knowing or even thinking that they’re going to do anything outside of the timeframe that you made them. I never thought that the record would still be hot after 1997. I didn’t think it was gonna still be hot in ’98, I didn’t think it was gonna be hot in ’99, let alone to get to 2024.”
