Cardi B's Imaginary Playerz hits the number 1 spot on the US iTunes Charts.
Belcalis Marlenis Cephus, known professionally as Cardi B, has just dropped her single Imaginary Playerz, which samples Jay-Z's track by the same name from his 1997 album ‘In My Lifetime, Vol. 1.’ The song is a preview of her sophomore album, ‘Am I The Drama?’, which is the long-awaited follow-up to her 2018 debut, ‘Invasion of Privacy.’
Cardi also revealed that she got prior confirmation from the rapper to sample his track.
She stated, “If he didn’t approve it, I probably wouldn’t even feel a certain type of way neither, because it’s like, ‘OK, maybe I just had to come a little bit harder.’ But I’m glad that I came hard and he loved it.”
In less than 24 hours since the song's release, it has reached the number 1 spot on the US iTunes Charts. The music video for the song is a masterclass in couture itself, as the "Bodak Yellow" singer solidifies herself as a certified fashion IT girl, especially after all her viral red carpet moments this year at various fashion shows.
Internet reacts to Cardi B's feat
While fans have been celebrating the singer, some users have taken to comparing the singer with Nicki Minaj, contributing to their long-term online battle, and going as far as to say she doesn't deserve it.
One fan commented, "cardi really dropped a track and cleared the whole app like it was light work"
While another said, "Not surprised it hit #1. Those luxe visuals match the vibe perfectly - old money aesthetic with new money energy."
A fan also stated, "Cardi’s still got the magic first day out and she’s already sitting at the top of US iTunes with Imaginary Playerz."
Another agreed, "Cardi always delivers with the visuals. That vintage car and red dress aesthetic is pure luxury. Well deserved #1."
However, one user commented, "Just goes to show people will listen to anything these days"
Another mentioned, "The barbs need to attach Nicki to Cardi lmao they can’t stop talking about Cardi"
Along with that, she has already shared the song ‘Outside,’ the lead single from the record. Cardi B has also confirmed that her previously released tracks ‘Up’ and ‘WAP’ with Megan Thee Stallion will also be part of the 23-track album. The album is set to release on 19 September.
