American country music singer Johnny Rodriguez died at 73 on May 9, 2025. The news of his demise was shared by his daughter Aubry on Facebook. However, the cause of his death is unknown at the time of this writing.
Aubry wrote:
“It is with profound sadness and heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved Johnny Rodriguez, who left us peacefully on May 9th, surrounded by family. Dad was not only a legendary musician whose artistry touched millions around the world, but also a deeply loved husband, father, uncle, and brother whose warmth, humor, and compassion shaped the lives of all who knew him.”
Aubry thanked everyone for their kindness and support. His fans and family have showered their tributes on the late singer. Johnny Rodriguez's family also asked for privacy as they mourned his death.
According to KLTV, Rodriguez was inducted into the Texas Country Music Hall of Fame in 2007. A few of his well-known hit songs are Ridin’ My Thumb to Mexico, You Always Come Back to Hurting Me, and Pass Me By.
A brief look into Johnny Rodriguez’s life and works
According to Saving Country Music, Rodriguez was honored with the Pioneer Award in 2010. This award is given by the Institute of Hispanic Culture in Houston. The singer also found his place in the All-Cowboy and Arena Champions Hall of Fame in 2022.
Two of Rodriguez’s songs reached the Top 10 in 1983. These songs were Foolin’ and How Could I Love Her So Much. However, the singer encountered a tragic incident. In 1998, he reportedly shot a man in his home because he thought the person had broken into his place.
However, no charges were pressed against Johnny Rodriguez. With regard to his musical journey, in December 2022, he collaborated with Dennis Quaid and Tanya Tucker for duet songs.
In 2025, Aubry paid tribute to her father by releasing Pass Me By, which was her debut single.
