Swedish band Ghost has officially reached the top of the Billboard 200 chart with their latest album, Skeletá. It is a milestone achievement for the band and the rock genre.
The May 10, 2025's chart confirms that Skeletá debuted at No. 1 and earned 86,000 equivalent album units in the U.S. during its first week, ending May 1, 2025. This is the first time in more than four years that a hard rock album has hit the chart's top spot.
Per Billboard, 89% of those units came from traditional album sales. Vinyl sales contributed over 44,000 copies. That is reportedly the biggest vinyl week for a hard rock album since tracking began in 1991, and the third-largest vinyl week for any rock album in the relatively modern era.
For Ghost fans, it is indeed a moment of validation. One X user summed up the general mood for most of the fans online:
"Congrats to Tobias, he deserves this and so much more !!"
Ghost was formed in 2006 in Linköping, Sweden. The band was quick to develop a notable following for their relatively theatrical stage presence, music, anonymous band members who are known as the Nameless Ghouls, and their frontman, who performs under various "Papa Emeritus" personas.
They first appeared on the Billboard 200 with their 2013 album Infestissumam, which debuted at No. 28. Ghost's 2022 record Impera peaked at No. 2. Skeletá is their first time hitting No. 1.

"Skeletá SLAPS, Ghost are the GOATS", declared a fan.

"Everyone asking who they r, just look it up and listen to some of their music, y'all boring and basic asf if ur hating on ts hardcore, if u don't like it then whatever but don't hate, they are fire", penned a third.
Others also chimed in:

"This could actually be revolutionary IM SO PROUD OF THEM. THATS MY FAV BANDDDD", added a third.
The last time a hard rock album topped the Billboard 200 was back in 2020 with AC/DC's Power Up.
