Canadian musician and singer Devin Townsend is taking a step back from performing on tours. On April 28, 2025, he shared a self-recorded video on his social media and YouTube, mentioning that his tour will start in two weeks. However, he announced:

“This video acts as me announcing that I am going to stop touring for a while after this American tour coming up starting next month. If you're in America and you want to have the opportunity to see me or meet me or participate in the work that I do in a live front, this upcoming tour will be the last time you get a chance to see me.”

As per Celebrity Net Worth, Devin Townsend has a net worth of $2 million. He started the heavy metal band Strapping Young Lad and took on the roles of lead singer, guitarist, and main songwriter before eventually going solo.

With Strapping Young Lad, he released five albums, and their final record, The New Black, peaked at #8 on the US Heatseekers chart. As a solo artist, he put out 17 studio albums, including Epicloud in 2012, which hit #1 on the same chart, and Transcendence in 2016, which reached #2 in Finland.

In the video, Devin Townsend shared that he will be taking a vacation, allowing him to do whatever he had put off for years. He said it was an honor to perform for his fans and appreciated having them in his life.

Touring, The Moth and The Ruby Quaker Show: Here’s what Devin Townsend has to say

In the caption of the video posted on YouTube, Devin Townsend explained that he had followed his creative instincts for almost 35 years. He was inspired by new ideas and supported by fellow musicians and fans.

Although people had often urged him to slow down, he had continued working. However, tour planning became more difficult after the pandemic, due to fewer venues, crew shortages, and a crowded touring scene.

On a personal level, his responsibilities grew, his aging parents and dogs needed care, his children had moved out, and he felt it was time to pause and reset, especially as his project, The Moth, neared completion. Devin Townsend wrote:

“So I’ve made the decision to take a break from touring—an indefinite one. This upcoming North American run will be the last time you’ll see me on stage for the foreseeable future. That doesn’t mean I’m done playing live.”

He went on:

“Not by a long shot. I’ll be performing until my final breath. But right now, I need to be present for the people who need me, and to give myself the space to reflect on everything I’ve been through.”

Devin Townsend shared that he had started a long-overdue project called The Ruby Quaker Show, a YouTube series where he planned to finally explore creative ideas and projects he had put off for years.

Although he planned to return to performing eventually, he felt the need to take a break and recharge. He realized he needed to slow down and create from a place of peace instead of stress. Devin Townsend also wanted to be present for the people who depended on him.
