Rapper Lil Durk released his ninth studio album, Deep Thoughts, in March 2025. Although there was a collaboration with Drake, it wasn’t released then. However, during a recent livestream, DJ Akademiks played the unreleased version. Interestingly, this version was also previewed by streamer Adin Ross last year.

Social media users appeared excited after DJ Akademiks’ preview, and many of them were eager to know the release date of the collab, while others praised Drake.

“When is it dropping?” a social media user asked.
“Drake the goat,” a netizen reacted.
“This shi old asf bruh.. it’s been almost a year since they sent this to adin n ak to preview like dam bro can it drop already… F**KK,” an online commentator wrote.
“That sh*t should’ve been dropped Drake took his verse off or durk left it off his album. Same with rod wave,” an X user commented.
Drake giving us melodies that are too good I ran this b*tch back like 5 times *crying emoji*," another commented.

DJ Akademiks shared the preview shortly after having a phone interview with Lil Durk, who spoke from jail. During their talk, Durk said he was doing well mentally and spiritually, and had been using his time to focus on personal growth, his family, and learning Arabic.

He mentioned there were a few people around him who spoke the language fluently, and he had been picking up words and improving his understanding.

According to HotNewHipHop, the song was reportedly titled Discontinuing Wokhardt and seemed to focus on giving up lean addiction. After hearing the lyrics, Ross questioned why he was asked to preview it, wondering if it was because of his past use of lean. He mentioned he had stopped using it and praised the track, calling it impressive.

“I had to catch my breath. No because it was like we already knew what he was doing, like we already know we was going with it like in the music world.”

Lil Durk went on:

“So, when he DM me like send me your number, I got one for you. I am like alright cool bobby knowing how to process let me go so when he DM me, sent his number, he facetimed me he played the song he was like, ‘I ain't gonna lie.’ He was like, ‘I need it tonight’ because you know, it was was the beginning of the pandemic.”

Lil Durk shared that he quickly recorded his part, but later, he got a call saying the track was good and was asked to add eight more bars since it would be released soon. Durk explained that he couldn’t do it immediately because the studio was closed due to the pandemic.

Drake’s song Laugh Now Cry Later was a collaboration with Lil Durk, which was released in 2020. Durk said working on the song was a back-and-forth process.
