Doja Cat recently revealed in an interview that her highly anticipated album will have pop tunes, something she had previously said she was trying to get away from. According to People Magazine, the Grammy-winning singer, in her interview with V Magazine, revealed that her next album, titled 'Vie,' shall be an immersive pop experience, adding that it shall focus on the theme of relationships. She said:
"I do want to be self-aware enough to admit the fact that this is a pop-driven project."
Doja Cat's upcoming album, 'Vie,' will be her fifth studio album. Her fourth studio album, Scarlet, which was released in 2023, peaked at no four. 4 on the Billboard 200 Chart, and saw her depart from her pop roots and featured a more R&B-inspired sound that included more rap songs.
More from Doja Cat's interview, as the singer reveals more details about her upcoming album
Doja Cat recently sat down for an interview with V Magazine on July 1, where she gave fans a sneak peek of what they can expect from her next project. She said:
“I know that I can make pop music, and pop is just that it’s popular. It starts to become a bit of a thing that’s viewed as a sport by people who are just bystanders to it, who enjoy it, but maybe also don’t respect it or what it is, which is just music. There are some people who don’t see it as music. They see it as if this is some kind of football for girls and gays.”
According to the Los Angeles Times, Doja Cat had tweeted in 2023 that her then-upcoming album would contain "rap only."
The Paint the Town Red singer further added in her interview that, over time, she has realized how much she can use her voice as an instrument across different styles. She said:
"I have a lot more knowledge of how to use my voice as an instrument, more than I ever have in my life. I want to focus more on: how does the mix sound? Do I even need these instruments here? Do I need to recut this verse? It’s how things sound that makes the music worth listening to. I would not be an artist if I didn’t care, right?”
Doja Cat further added:
"If for any reason a project of mine does a little less good than the last one, I don’t want to be up in arms and upset about it. I want to embrace that. [The album] is very pointed towards love, romance, and s*x—and discourse in relationship. Really just relationships in general, and relationships with yourself, even. [Vie] is very much about love in a way that reflects how I want it to be in the future—my hope, my hopefulness. What I hope it could be."
Doja Cat's album, 'Vie,' which means "life" in French, is slated to be released sometime later this year, although no official confirmation has been released.
