K-pop group ENHYPEN drops concept video for upcoming album DESIRE: UNLEASH.

All-boys K-pop group ENHYPEN just dropped a thrilling concept video, titled Desire Cinema for their upcoming album DESIRE: UNLEASH. The video had a special premiere where all seven members of the group—Heeseung, Jay, Jake, Sunghoon, Sunoo, Jungwon, and Ni-Ki—along with the director Park Min-su, showed up. The premiere event and media Q&A took place at Megabox COEX in Gangnam, Seoul.

At the event, Jungwon reflected:

"When I first heard we’d be working with the director, I thought it would be more like a documentary and expected very detailed directing. And when we actually filmed, the instructor who was with us guided us closely, which helped a lot." He further added, “We just watched it with our fans, and I don’t know why you keep laughing at my lines. It’s not supposed to be a cute film, but I guess some of those moments came off that way, and I liked that.”

On the other hand, Heeseung expressed:

“Personally, I think the main theme of the film is desire. The director did a great job exploring that idea, and since our upcoming album also has the title 'DESIRE', the keyword of desire is really important. It’s all connected, and I hope our fans can see and feel that connection,” talking about the connection between the album and the film. He noted, “You saw that there’s a monster in the story, right? I think that monster is a symbolic representation of desire. I hope people watch it with that perspective.”

ENHYPEN's album and film concept

The inspiration for the concept video reflects 1970s American Gothic aesthetics and certain Vampire imagery, which is something the idols have delved into before for their album Dark Blood (2023). However, this album, along with the concept video, takes a more retro direction with the styling and concept teasers.

Though ENHYPEN doesn't have any formal training in acting, they've time and again proven themselves.

Sunghoon explained:

"Compared to last year’s themes of youthful love, this album delves into a more mature spectrum — desire that’s deeper and darker.”

Jay talked about taking acting inspiration from British actor Tom Ellis from the Netflix series Lucifer.

Talking about the cinematography at the event, he further added, "There’s a whisper scene that really shifts the tone. I focused on channeling a spiritual arrogance — a performance that feels both alluring and unstable."

ENHYPEN, who recently had their Coachella debut, are all set to make a comeback on June 5, making this their sixth mini album.
