Kehlani is reflecting on the full-circle moment that it is for her to be singing alongside Mariah Carey on her new song.

The R&B star, 30, joined forces with the seasoned songstress and Shenseea for her latest single, "Sugar Sweet," which dropped earlier today. To commemorate the moment, she took to Instagram, where she got candid about how much this means to her:

"nobody speak to me i got a song with the one and only @mariahcarey 🦋," she wrote. "the earliest video of me singing and first song i ever learned was 'Hero' and everybody who knows me knows this is one of my heroes." She also referred to Carey as "the definition of an icon." "to have given us so much, for DECADES & never fail to impress us through all the twists and turns music makes," she added. "i am so honored and immensely grateful. there truly are no words. and Shenseea you’re an absolute BAD ASS who is right on your way to legendary status yourself. i’m happy man. #SUGARSWEET 🐑 LAMBS WE ARE SO UP 🐑"

As reported by People Magazine, Kehlani also doubled down on her excitement by sharing a throwback video of herself grooving to Mariah Carey's 1993 classic.

Everything we know about Mariah Carey's forthcoming album and latest single:

Just before Mariah Carey announced her comeback album during her Thursday performance on Jimmy Kimmel Live, she stunned fans with the unexpected collaboration between herself, Kehlani, and Shenseea. She took to Instagram to share the news, while the caption read:

“SUGAR SWEET OUT NOW!”

When guest host Fortune Feimster asked her why she took seven years to drop an album on Thursday, she said:

"Really I was just getting it together. I would make like four songs and then be like, 'We can start making an album now,' and then I would never do it. And then I got up to like you know 10 songs and we were basically ready with an album."

Mariah Carey last released an album in 2018, Caution. Her latest single comes on the heels of the debut of another single, Type Dangerous. It was recently made into a remix EP with Big Sean, DJ Snake, and Method Man.

During a recent Apple Music interview, the songstress said of her forthcoming 16th studio album, Here For It All:

“The album is done. I don’t want to spoil too much, but this next single is definitely one of my favorites. It’s summery. It’s got that bounce I love.”

In the last seven years, while she didn't release any new solo music, Mariah Carey did work on several anniversary reissues of some of her hit albums, including The Emancipation of Mimi, Music Box, Butterfly, and more. She also served as a guest feature on remixes of tracks by Ariana Grande and Latto, The Rolling Stone has reported.
