Lisa's new documentary will feature her reuniting with her BLACKPINK band members in South Korea, and fans cannot contain their excitement.
The documentary is being directed by Sue Kim and produced in partnership with LLOUD CO/RCA Records and Tremolo Productions. The news was announced just this Thursday during Sony Music Vision’s inaugural content showcase, held in Los Angeles.
The Hollywood Reporter has pointed out that the documentary will chronicle a year in the singer's life as she chases an identity in music independent of her K-pop girl band. This also includes the debut of her solo album, Alter Ego, which charted in the Top 10 of the Billboard 200 and debuted at the dominating position of the top album sales chart.
Fans have since begun flocking to X to revel in the excitement, despite the news awaiting official confirmation. Here's how one user reacted, for instance:
"Give us the biggest comeback"
The comments didn't end there:
"the most anticipated documentary of all time," one user mentioned.
"It better be just a sneak pic....and wholely Lisa solo...cos," someone else opined.
"Lisa please nooo .....we don't want those other girlies in there please," another naysayer claimed.
"To those who think she doesn't care about her Pinks. Lisa literally made a separate space for BLINKS to hangout in her discord server and is now including the girls in her documentary. You can never convince me she or any of the members will ever forget BLACKPINK," a fourth user defended.
Even more joined the ongoing discourse on the microblogging platform:
"Lisa the main character that you are," one fan quipped.
"Not me crying already and the documentary isn’t even out yet," another jokingly penned.
"does she even know this," someone else quipped.
"i speak for us all when I say that WE WILL be watching," yet another echoed.
While opinions remain divided, for the most part, the prevailing sentiment is one of excitement and glee.
Here's everything we know about Lisa's forthcoming documentary:
As pointed out by Teen Vogue, the songstress has been busy in the last few years: She debuted her first solo album, starred in HBO's The White Lotus, founded her own company, performed at Coachella and the Victoria's Secret fashion show, among other things.
Now, she is officially joining the ranks of Barbra Streisand, Oasis, and Elvis Presley, as her documentary goes into production.
While its title has yet to be disclosed, it is known that the documentary will focus on the year when all four BLACKPINK members decided to chase their own solo careers back in 2023. At the time, their contract with YG Entertainment had just expired, though they issued a fresh contract as a group. Teen Vogue has reported that they will be going on a world tour this year.
Sony says the documentary “will give fans exclusive access to Lisa with an in-depth look at the artist’s groundbreaking career and creative vision outside of the world-renowned group, BLACKPINK.” It will reportedly chronicle Lisa's “offstage moments.”
The Korean-American filmmaker said in a statement:
“Following Lisa on this transformative and thrilling year has been a true honor and a cinematic gift. There have been so many moments on her journey that I think will surprise people and give a glimpse into her world that no one’s ever seen before. I’m excited for viewers to watch the film and witness this extraordinary moment in her life.”
In another statement this Thursday, she said of her muse for the documentary:
“I really tried to impress upon Lisa how much not just me — but I think the world — wants to see off-stage Lisa. She loves to refer to herself as, ‘I’m just a normal girl from Thailand.’ And when you meet her, she actually is. She’s so down to earth. It’s quite shocking, and so real and so sincere. But she’s very incredibly found herself in this crazy position of being one of the biggest superstars in the world, and even within that world, she’s trying to expand out of it.”
As for the pop music crooner, here's what she had to say:
“This has been such an incredible year, and I’m so lucky to have the opportunity to capture these special moments on film and share the experience with my fans. Working with Sue Kim has been such a joy. We’ve been all around the world together, and I know this is just the beginning of many more exciting things to come.”
Further details about the songstress' forthcoming documentary have yet to be made public.
