Gracie Abrams hit fans right in the feels during her Auckland stop on The Secret of Us tour, delivering an emotional cover of Lorde’s Liability, a nod to her musical roots, and a sweet gift to their shared fanbase.

On April 28, the songstress left the audience swooning with the stripped-down, soul-stirring cover of the Kiwi native’s track. Clad in a sparkling gown, she captivated the crowd with her soft vocals and delicate piano work and turned the audience into a chorus of heartbreak.

The crowd sang along, especially during the gut-punch verse:

“Baby really hurt me, crying in the taxi / He don't wanna know me / Says he made the big mistake of dancing in my storm / Says it was poison / So I guess I'll go home / Into the arms of the girl that I love / The only love I haven't screwed up / She's so hard to please, but she's a forest fire”

Liability is from Lorde’s critically acclaimed album Melodrama, released in 2017. The record earned a Grammy nomination for Album of the Year and won big at the New Zealand Music Awards.

Co-produced by Jack Antonoff, the song is a deeply personal piano ballad known for its emotional vulnerability.

Gracie Abrams shows love for Lorde: “I feel my nervous system regulate differently"

Gracie Abrams’ cover of Liability came just weeks after she expressed her deep admiration for fellow singer and real-life bestie, Lorde.

In her recent Billboard interview, Abrams called the Royals singer “one of her favorite people,” adding:

“Whenever we’re together, I feel my nervous system regulate differently.”

She went on to say that Lorde's existence is already calm in itself, hinting at the mutual trust between them.

“It’s comforting that there are people like her that exist, where you know that that’s a trusted person who you could always lean on.”
