Halsey, aka Ashley Nicolette Frangipane, and Evanescence’s Amy Lee’s collaborative single Hand That Feeds will release on May 9, 2025. According to NME, this song is also a part of the Ballerina movie, which will be out on June 6, 2025. Sharing the news on Instagram, Lee wrote:
“HAND THAT FEEDS A song by Halsey & Amy Lee - Out May 9th for @BallerinaMovie @lionsgate.”
Amy Lee also shared the news on her X page, expressing her excitement for the work. Reflecting on her friendship with Halsey, she wrote:
“We’ve been fans of each other’s work for a long time and it really feels like the universe pulled us together for this moment.”
Appreciating the opportunity, she added:
“We already had the Hollywood Bowl show in place when @Lionsgate invited us to work on a song for the @ballerinamovie together, and it's finally time to serve it UP! Cannot wait for you all to hear!!”
Ashley had also shared a snippet of the single with her fans. In the audio clip, Halsey and Amy Lee sang together over a minimal piano melody and an eerie background sound, delivering a line about consequences and betrayal.
When promoting The Great Impersonator last year, Halsey paid tribute to 18 of her musical inspirations, including Lee. She recreated Evanescence’s Fallen album cover and called Lee her original dark rock idol in an Instagram post from October 2024.
Halsey on aging, Badlands, and fate
In September 2024, Halsey sat down with Z100 New York to discuss her health issues and journey with the new album. She shared that she felt excited about turning 30 and thought the timing was meaningful.
She pointed out that her music career began at 19 with Badlands, so her entire journey in the industry had taken place during her twenties. Ashley also mentioned that her album The Great Impersonator explored themes of decades, and she realized later that her career had fit neatly into one, starting at 20 and continuing up to her 30th birthday.
She found it hard to believe she had spent ten years doing something she loved. Commenting on the album, she said:
“I think fate is something that you know in my position, I can't help but think about. I'm like a girl from Jersey, you know. I like grew up in like you know these like tiny little apartments my whole life like my parents dropped out of college to have me.”
She went on:
“I didn't really have that the kind of life where I thought something magnificent was going to happen to me but at that same time I did always kind of have this feeling that I was different you know what I mean like I don't know like I felt different and for a long time that feeling of being different wasn't a good feeling.”
Halsey reflected on how quickly her life changed after she began making music. She had no industry connections and had barely traveled outside of New Jersey or New York.
She landed a record deal within eight months of writing her song Ghost. Looking back, she believed fate must have played a role because she couldn't think of any other reason for how every step came together unexpectedly.
