Jennie wasn’t just targeting yet another solo track when she dropped like JENNIE; she was aiming to create a pop culture moment. From its swagger-filled tune to its bass-thumping beat that screams confidence, the song swiftly achieved virality and became a massive hit.
Behind some of its punchy lyrics is Amanda Ibanez, professionally known as Kiddo A.I., who has previously worked with Jennie’s co-BLACKPINK member Lisa, plus pop giants like Selena Gomez.
In her recent Billboard interview, Kiddo spilled some behind-the-scenes magic on what went down when she was crafting Jennie’s viral anthem, starting:
“That was such a crazy day.”
She was especially nervous heading into the session, which also featured two songwriting heavyweights.
“I went to Diplo’s house and he lives deep in Malibu, so it was an hour drive. I was working with [him and] Tayla Parx for the first time, so I was very nervous because I was such a fan of both of them.”
Kiddo went on and shared that the initial tracks for the BLACKPINK member didn’t click until inspiration struck.
“We went through a couple of different tracks, but nothing made sense. Then Tayla and I were like, ‘We need something hard and just so in-your-face. This is Jennie’s song, right? So let’s make a song called “like JENNIE.” ’ JENNIE freaked out. She loved it.”
The finished product turned out to be a genre-bending blend of baile funk, hip-hop, and phonk, co-produced by Diplo and Jennie’s fellow K-pop heavyweight Zico.
like JENNIE is brash, bold, and very much Jennie, just like the title promises.
Jennie’s solo like JENNIE shines on the UK Charts
Jennie continues to make waves with her solo track "like JENNIE”, which recently jumped 11 spots to land at No. 53 on the UK Singles Chart, holding strong for six weeks and counting.

True to its name, like JENNIE is a full-on vibe, as well as a testament to her artistic vision. She co-wrote the track with a powerhouse team, and its lines that go “Who wanna rock with Jennie? / Keep your hair done, nails done like Jennie” cement her status as a trendsetter in both music and fashion.
