Scooter Braun is getting candid about the status of his relationship with former protégé Justin Bieber.

During a recent interview on The Diary of a CEO, which came out on Monday, June 9, the music mogul reflected on his bond with the former child star. Braun was the one to discover the Canadian pop star almost two decades ago, when Braun was 25 years old and Bieber was 13.

“We were able to achieve some amazing things,” he said of their time together. “I’m very proud of what we achieved and always rooting for him.”

However, now that Scooter Braun has been retired for a year and they don't work together anymore, he conceded that their bond is “not the same that it was.”

“I think there comes a point where — I understand — he probably wants to go on and show that he can do it,” Braun said. “We worked together for so long and we had such extreme success, and I think you get to a point as a man where you want to show the world you can do it on your own. And I completely respect that. I think at this point, that’s what he’s doing. Myself and everyone from the old team is rooting for him.”

The music mogul added:

“At that point it had been a couple years where I knew I wanted to do something else, and I wanted to find out who I was. I wanted to experiment with, you know, a different career and we were both communicating enough with each other. The writing was on the wall.”

Scooter Braun and Justin Bieber's relationship explored as the latter reportedly owes the music mogul millions of dollars:

Back in August 2023, Scooter Braun's management company, SB Projects (SBP), reached new heights as it helmed the careers of several prolific artists, including Carly Rae Jepsen, the Black Eyed Peas, and Justin Bieber. However, several artists left, including the "Baby" singer.

According to The Mirror, Bieber, now a father of one, still owes Braun millions of dollars, but that's not stopping Braun from wishing him well

“To see Justin move forward and succeed, to see Ariana with what’s happened with Wicked in this past year, to see Tori Kelly …,” Braun said. “Everybody that I’ve ever had a chance to work with, to see them go on and do great things on their own, it’s awesome.”

During an interview with Us Weekly, Scooter Braun said he had a “clear vision” of Bieber becoming successful after he happened upon his YouTube videos. “No one believed me,” Braun said, adding that Bieber’s “tone” and “charisma” are what made him stand out.

“They put it on the line for me, too. They believed in a 25-year-old kid,” he said of Bieber and his family. “We were able to achieve some amazing things and I’m very proud of what we achieved and always rooting for him.”

PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC), a leading accounting firm, executed an independent audit and found that Justin Bieber still owes Braun over $8,806,000, according to documents obtained by TMZ in May. The audit was done just this past April.

As for Scooter Braun, he revealed back in June that he would be taking a step back from managing artists to focus solely on his role as CEO of HYBE America, which he assumed back in 2021, when HYBE purchased his Ithaca Holdings for $1.05 billion, Billboard has reported.

In 2023, as many of his clients stepped out on him and his company, including Demi Lovato, Ariana Grande, and more, Scooter Braun issued a statement wishing them well:

“I will continue to root for them with the same passion that I did at each of their humble beginnings … there will never be a day where I don’t take great pride and honor in what we accomplished together.”
