In a splashy new deal, indie singer Clairo has signed with Atlantic Records. This milestone comes after she had been signed with Republic before self-releasing her 2024 album Charm.
Claire Elizabeth Cottrill, known professionally as Clairo, released her debut EP Diary 001 in 2018 on Fader Label. Following that was her debut album Immunity the next year on the same imprint, and then Sling in 2021 on Fader, Polydor, and Republic, ending with last year’s Charm on her own Clairo Records.
And now she is shifting the trajectory of her career by moving to Atlantic Records, which houses artists such as Alex Warren, Ava Max, Bruno Mars, Charli XCX, Rosé, Sia, and more. In the press release, she expressed,
“I’m so thrilled to begin this next chapter of my musical journey with Atlantic. From our first meeting, they immediately understood my vision, and it feels good to know I can continue to be as expressive and free with my ideas with a great new partner by my side.”
Elliot Grainge, chairman and CEO of Atlantic Music Group, added,
“Clairo represents the rare kind of artist who reshapes the music landscape simply by being true to herself. She’s not just one of the most important songwriters of her era, she’s an artist whose work and aesthetic is truly unique. As a leading voice in music today, we are honored that she has chosen the Atlantic family to be part of her next chapter.”
Fans react to Clairo joining Atlantic Records
The Pretty Girl singer’s fans have expressed excitement and curiosity to see what a label as big as Atlantic could do for the artist in terms of opportunities and resources. Some have also expressed concern about the fact that she is a huge part of the indie scene, and signing with a major label could hinder her control over her creativity.
One user stated,
"Atlantic’s platform could take her music to a whole new level."
Another said,
"Big move for her! Hope Atlantic doesn't try to change her indie sound that made us all fall in love with her music."
One user questioned,
"Interesting to see her join a major label after building such a strong indie following. Wonder what changes we'll see."
While a fan expressed,
"Big move! Hope Atlantic doesn't water down what makes her special. Indie to major label transitions can be tricky."
A user also stated,
"Perfect match — Clairo’s artistry with Atlantic’s reach could make this her defining era."
Her self-released album Charm was nominated for her first Grammy in the Best Alternative Music Album category.
