Jessica Simpson celebrated eight years of sobriety this week.

The famed songstress, 45, took to her Instagram account on November 1 to mark the milestone with a lengthy caption alongside a selfie.

“8 years ago today I made the choice to confront, to confess and to let go of the self-sabotaging parts of my life that I was choosing,” Jessica wrote. “Making that decision allowed me to fully live in the pursuit of God’s purpose for my life. Alcohol silenced my intuition, blocked my dreams and chased my circulating fears of complacency.”

She added,

“Today I am clear. Today I am driven by faith. Both fear and faith are something that we feel and may not see, I’m so happy I chose faith over fear. It was not in the fight that I found my strength, it was in the surrender.”

The "Sweetest Sin" singer also celebrated being 7 years sober on Instagram last year, when she shared a selfie and the following caption:

"7yrs ago today I walked myself into the light of being alcohol free."

Jessica Simpson began her sobriety journey in 2017, per E! News. At the time, she spent her Halloween drinking and later struggled to get her kids, daughter Maxwell, and son Ace into their costumes for an assembly at school. The songstress also has a daughter, Birdie. She shares her kids with husband Eric Johnson.

"I was terrified of letting them see me in that shape," she wrote in her memoir Open Book. "I am ashamed to say that I don't know who got them into their costumes that night."

Back in 2021, she shared a photo of herself taken on the morning after the incident, noting on Instagram at the time that it was "an unrecognizable version of myself."

"I knew in this very moment I would allow myself to take back my light, show victory over my internal battle of self respect, and brave this world with piercing clarity," she recalled in her post. "Personally, to do this I needed to stop drinking alcohol because it kept my mind and heart circling in the same direction and quite honestly I was exhausted."

For her, it meant acknowledging her own demons and "accept failure, pain, brokenness, and self sabotage."

"There is so much stigma around the word alcoholism or the label of an alcoholic," Jessica Simpson continued. "The drinking wasn't the issue. I was. I didn't love myself. I didn't respect my own power."

At the time, she said that cutting alcohol out of her life helped her make "nice with the fears."

"I have accepted the parts of my life that are just sad," Jessica Simpson added. "I own my personal power with soulful courage. I am wildly honest and comfortably open. I am free."

As reported by People Magazine, just last year, Jessica Simpson pushed back on a follower who urged her to "STOP DRINKING" via a comment on an unrelated Instagram post marking Ace's 11th birthday.

“I haven’t wanted or touched alcohol since October 2017 and it has been the best decision I’ve made for myself and for my family,” Jessica wrote at the time. “Thank you for your concern, but you have me very misunderstood. Sending love your way.”
