Charli XCX and her longtime fiancé, The 1975's George Daniel, are now officially married. Here is a look at all the times the drummer is referenced in her music:
Charli XCX often takes inspiration from her real-life experiences, because of which she has often mentioned her new husband, George Daniel, in her music as well. In the song 'Talk Talk' from her album Brat, she references an incident at the 2020 NME Awards before they were dating and how they had to keep their relationship a secret. This was referenced in the first verse, which goes:
"I've been lookin' at you/Puttin' holes in your head/We've been talking for months/But never in the same room/And now I wanna approach ya/But we've been keeping this a secret/When you're surrounded by friends/And I'm just wondering what they know."
Charli XCX also spoke of the reference, explaining its meaning:
“We were at the NME Awards, we were both sat on different tables, and we were like texting each other, but we weren’t hanging out,” she explained in a TikTok. “But we were both looking over at each other—it was very like, one of us would look, and the other one would look away, and then just vice versa.”
While in her song Club Classics, which is also from the same album and co-produced by Daniel, she directly mentions him, stating:
“I wanna dance with George."
Similarly, in Sympathy is a Knife, there is a lyric that expresses:
"George says I'm just paranoid."
In the remix of Caroline Polachek’s Welcome to My Island, which also features The 1975 drummer, Charli sings:
"I want a white dress, country sidе house, and kids."
Charli XCX and George Daniel have previously worked together
Charli XCX and her husband, George Daniel, might be life partners now, but the two have a history of working together. Daniel has helped produce a few of XCX's songs, including her remix of Caroline Polachek’s Welcome to My Island, No Rome with The 1975 and No Rome, Hot Girl from the Bodies Bodies Bodies soundtrack, and tracks from her 2022 album, Crash.
She also talked about how having a partner who is also creative has helped with her creation process:
“Now that I’m in a relationship with another musician, he’s influenced me a lot with his process and how he and his band work,” she said in an interview with The Sun. “It’s really different to how I work, and that has definitely influenced me and my process.”
The two tied the knot in Hackney and are planning a bigger, no-expense-spared event in Sicily later this year. The ceremony that took place at a registry office was a more casual affair for close family and friends.
